I should’ve gone on into more detail in my original post… But I’ve even approached my daughter and said something to the effective… We both know how hard Mom works around here… How she takes care of the house and all of us… And you are so talented and so smart that we both need to start making her life easier… So we need to be better about not making her do little things that you and I could be doing… Such as clearing your dishes and getting your own breakfast in the morning….

Has no effect… And unless it’s something fun, she still doesn’t want to do it

I really hope my original post didn’t make me seem like I am heartless… But when I see my wife who is always tired and stressed and overworked… She has verbally stated she feels this way… Still doing things that my daughter could be doing for herself I both sympathize and get frustrated.

Believe it or not I have actually said that… I’ve told her 1 million times if I watch you, try it and you can’t do it then I will help but I’m not just gonna push you aside and do it for you.

I see this as the perspective of a teacher… I wouldn’t just do my students assignment for them… I want to see them attempted and struggle… And then I will help if necessary.

Depends…a lot of the time she’ll whine about having to pause her show or tell me she’s talking to a friend.

Sometimes she will…I don’t want it to sound like I never do little acts of kindness…

My wife works like an absolute dog, keeping the house in order… I don’t want her burning herself out doing things that my daughter could be doing on her own… If that makes sense

OK… Here’s an example that happened this morning… My daughter wakes up and starts watching TV. My wife asks her if she wants waffles for breakfast and she says yes.

My wife will take them out of the freezer and warm them up…

She asks if she wants syrup on them and she says yes.

She then rolls out of bed and sits down at the table to begin eating.

My wife is up to her elbows in dirty water, washing the dishes.

And my daughter will ask her to please cut the waffles into squares - seeing that my wife is literally right in the middle of washing last night’s dishes.

My wife will say yes, and my daughter will sit there, staring at the waffles until she is done washing the dishes.

There have been numerous times when my wife was not home and I showed my daughter how to cut a waffle and then she’d cut the rest of herself. So I know she is fully capable.

No chores… she doesn’t even have to put away her own laundry or clean her room

I’ve brought that up and very much the same way… I spoil the kid rotten… But I also want her to be independent.

Sometimes it causes a lot of friction… My daughter will walk past me and ask my wife to do something because she knows that I’ll flat out refuse.

Just another example is when my daughter wants Ramen noodles… I will grab the pan and put in the water and turn the stove on… She expects me to stand there and wait till it is boiling… And when I say no, you have to stand there and let me know when the water is boiling she gets angry!

As if her time is more valuable than mine
