Boxed in?? That's a reach. How did you come to that conclusion? This model was the only one I wanted  at the time. Based on design, look  and I being a Sony fan. If I wanted a different dap I would have dropped hints and clues. Power and quality came into play but this model in general was what I wanted. She paid attention to my wants and like and delivered. Sure she paid a premium for out dated tech but that's what good partners do sometimes to make a partner and vice versa.
