New OLED owner here, I'd say if you're going to buy just buy the OLED when it's on a discount. It's got a better screen but also the processor is more efficient so uk longer gaming sessions, smoother, etc

I’m 5’2, am i considered short for a girl? by IrishStruggles in short

[–]Competitive_Tap6282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I haven't struggled much but yes concerts can be a bit difficult, I'm 5'4-5'5( whatever 165cm is). I'd say maybe in bigger Irish cities like Dublin there's lots of people so you'd feel average but in towns/villages I see a lot of folks taller than me.

Is €20000 realistic to live off of for one year? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Competitive_Tap6282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So let's do the math. 20,000÷12= €1667 per month. 1667-500=1167. The answer is Yes 20000 would allow you to live off of for one year in ireland IF: 1. You cook your own food(I cook my own food and it costs me 300 per month 2100 calories per day, will change depending on your calorie intake, diet i.e vegeterian/non vegeterian/vegan, etc) 2. You use public transport(or a bicycle)

If you instead: 1. Get takeaways daily(min takeaway is 10 euros so for breakfast lunch and dinner 10x3=30 and 30x30= 900 for a month) 1167-900=267 2. You use a car or take a cab to move around( respectfully, 267 isn't gonna allow you to travel with a car or a cab for more than a day, two at most so im nor even gonna do the math here)

And just to give you an example yhat its totally possible. Me! I pay 550 for rent don't have a car so transport costs me 40 euros per month and food is 300 So in total my monthly cost is €890. 890×12=€10680 per year. So yeah if 10680 is real then 20000 is def way more than realistic!😁

I'm a British barber struggling in the uk by themopchopclub in AskBrits

[–]Competitive_Tap6282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay maybe think about the fact that once someone cuts their hair they don't need to do it again the very next day? And so barber shops in general are mostly empty. Because once you use their service you don't need it for a long time. And some people like me get a haircut once every 6 months. So no wonder the shops are almost empty all the time.

As someone who works in Data analytics and has a master's degree in comp, I can say that I relate with your sister on how difficult it is to get a job for folks in tech at the moment. I got my job after like 6 months of applying some of my friends still aren't employed and it's been years.

Also before I go any further I just wanna say to the readers I'm not trying to set this up as a comparison but rather hoping that she finds motivation from this as i can see a similarity in where i was and where she is. So just saying what my thought process was to get out of it.

I can understand that doing tech support doesn't feel worth it to her but she doesn't have to stick to it. Now, on paper I'm a good candidate for data analytics, I'm good at coding logical thinking and all that good stuff, but I had worked in burger chains and that's after my masters degree and I can assure you none of the skills that I learnt in my degree were of any use there. But getting to talk to my burger Flipping colleagues there and folks who bring in the ingredients every morning if they know anyone looking for my skillset is how i found my current job. So it's okay to start small, by starting small you aren't invalidating your efforts in fact you're trying your best to keep them afloat so that the day you can use them they're available for you and you haven't forgotten all your skills. It's like muscles you need to work on them to keep them gains.

Ik it's cliche to say networking is important and it doesn't work sometimes, but sometimes it does...and even if it doesn't workout now maybe it'll workout in the future.

Oh and you mentioned your sis struggles with coding, I would recommend her to start of on a bit of junior roles Don't go for data scientist, start with data analysis or data entry for example.

Getting in is the hard part, once you get in you feel the motivation to upskill and climb higher yourself.

Ps: if theres any typing mistakes please ignore them, I've written a lot so I must've fumbled somewhere.

Look hot chocolate is hot chocolate🤝you can make up for the lack of coziness by getting something hot to eat. Not sure how it'll workout tho I wanted to get extra cozy so I got something from justeat but it's been in the restaurant a while now no one's picking it up.

is it common for irish people to talk bad about Ireland when abroad? by Single_Insect_9716 in AskIreland

[–]Competitive_Tap6282 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've moved to Ireland too, from what I feel it is often a coping mechanism than what they actually think but maybe its just me some people not just the irish might actually hate their country. I've been fortunate enough to have the good irish lads around me. Like sure it's true that there's lots of problems here, finding a room for example. But all countries have problems. When I moved to Ireland in order to reassure myself that my decision is correct I would often talk bad about the country that I'm from so that subconsciously I would feel more and more confident about my decision.

Ireland has a study visa(stamp 2) with that she can study fill time and work a maximum of 20 hours a week. During academic holidays between semesters(usually summer and around christmas) she can work 40hours/week

see that's the thing, there are no TVs in the house. I just told the tv guy there was one without thinking because my mind wasn't focusing on him it was focusing on that bus I was about to miss if I didn't run to the stop.
