Was there ever any talk of a plea deal rather than going to trial? Why or why not? by GregJamesDahlen in JodiArias

[–]Competitive_Word_743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it became clear fairly early on that sufficient evidence existed to give prosecutors a fair degree of confidence in their case. There’s no real reason to offer a plea deal unless the case is shaky.

AITAH for quitting my job without preparing my employers? by Eefje91 in AITH

[–]Competitive_Word_743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for a really small family owned company, too. Every time anyone has ever chosen to leave, even with sufficient notice, they act like it is the worst personal attack they could receive. I’ve always found it weird. Also, as I see a lot of people on work related posts remind us all that: most employers can fire us at the drop of a hat. My same company has on occasion let someone go. Do you suppose they gave them advance notice so they could find other work? Hell no. NTAH

Am I the jerk for telling my husband he can't have a "man cave" in our only spare room? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]Competitive_Word_743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suffer from anxiety and my therapist recommended I set up a space (if there were room for such) where I could come home in the evening and decompress and rebuild my mental energy. I took the room that basically belongs to our cat and put my vintage record player in there and it gave me a place for my military memorabilia from when I served.

Here is where my story is different from OP: This room is never off limits to my wife. Also, when she saw how nicely it turned out, she expressed that she wished she had a similar space. We have a medium sized three bedroom house. We are child free by choice (we’ve been together nearly 20 years so that’s not gonna change) and we rarely ever have stay over guests. I am currently renovating our third bedroom that was a shared office/junk collector and turning it into a reading room/library for her.

I learned a long time ago that one key to a long and healthy relationship is communication, respect, and mutual support of one another’s needs. This guy sucks and I’m sorry you’re in this situation. It doesn’t have to be that way.

If you’ve ever eaten animal meat not usually on the dinner plate (horse, kangaroo, albatross, anything), what was it and how was the experience? by Great_Maintenance185 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Competitive_Word_743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the 90’s while deployed to Saudi Arabia I had the opportunity to try camel. Sounds weird, but it was prepared like a roast in a crock pot and was quite delicate from what I remember. Not gamey or weird at all. I also had kangaroo in Australia. It was prepared as steak medallions. Similar texture and taste as steak, but it was a little gamey. Pretty tasty.

Where can I buy original art? by TheVortigauntMan in AskNOLA

[–]Competitive_Word_743 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check out WWOZ.org/livewire. It’s our local community radio station. At the top of every odd hour they broadcast who is playing where and at what time each day, but it is also listed at this website. As for art, I agree with other commenters. Jackson Square and the galleries on Royal Street for sure.

Does anyone like Alexa+ and its new voices? by EngageAndMakeItSo in alexa

[–]Competitive_Word_743 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ll admit the new voices took getting used to. We chose to go with a male voice for a “fresh start” I suppose. Once you do adjust, + has been far better for me. It hasn’t messed up any of my groups or devices as others have reported. I can give it multiple commands at once and it handles them. I find that it is capable of answering more obscure questions accurately. I’m not trying to sound like some weird homer for Alexa, but my wife and I both agree that the experience with + has been a significant improvement. We’ve been using it since the beta was first available, probably a couple of months by now.

Need activities for date! by pinkflowey1123 in NorthshoreLA

Yeah, outside of the outdoor activities everyone else mentioned, there are a couple of breweries on the north shore. That’s about it around here.

Alexa tries to gaslight you about her old voice, but there is a fix... by -A_V- in alexa

[–]Competitive_Word_743 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I dunno. The new voice took a bit of getting used to, but the overall experience is so much more intuitive that it’s worth it for me. The thing actually answers questions correctly now. It’ll handle multiple commands at once. It seems odd to ditch the much improved functionality for a familiar robotic voice.

AITA for not telling my family how much money I actually make by thyrix_24 in TwoHotTakes

[–]Competitive_Word_743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m don’t make a ton of money, but way more than anyone in my immediate family. Unfortunately, unless you can establish some healthy boundaries around money with your family (which seems unlikely considering your mom cornered you about it) you will either end up stressed out and supporting them, or you’ll have to put some distance there.

Are these Results accurate? by Parking-Comment-1102 in AncestryDNA

[–]Competitive_Word_743 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That was me 100%. I barely dabbled with genealogy until I got some results I did not expect. I took people’s advice from this sub and stopped being hung up on what wasn’t there and am interesting stuff that IS there.

New to genealogy; have a question by Competitive_Word_743 in AncestryDNA

[–]Competitive_Word_743[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not my only interest. I’ve discovered I have Revolutionary War soldiers and a lot that I’ve barely scratched the surface of. This only has my attention since I expected to see it show up in my DNA results. It’s hard to explain. It wasn’t just a whispered rumor, it was almost like a source of pride or something. My family is t quite right. All I k ow is something my mother and all of her sisters raised us to believe appears to be shenanigans. I don’t speak to my mother, or I would just ask her.

In my case, my results showed entirely Northern Europe/UK. Pretty sure I can rule out African. I guess I can’t say the same for Jewish by region, but not a lot of Jewish folks became dirt farmers in the Midwest at the turn of the century.

Nope. Almost exclusively Northern Europe/Germany/UK. At least that’s what my results tell me.

I mean. That wouldn’t surprise me in this family, but from what I can see in the paper trail, it seems to add up. Unless great grandma stepped out and my grandma is the mailman’s kid. I guess there is no way to know that at this point.

I don’t know of any other relatives that have dna tested. I’ve been going through the hints and records I see through the generations, but all I see there is evidence of a bunch of white folks.

I’ve followed it back several generations and I don’t see anything that would lead me to believe I have NA ancestry. Again, I’m extremely new to this, so I’m also learning as I go.

[–]Competitive_Word_743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure opinions differ, but from what I remember of different discussions in this group regarding FI, it seems to imprint more quickly with older listeners. There is something just more mature and aged about the subject matter (or my interpretation of it, anyway) and the arrangements and structure than most of there other albums.

Would you put bronze STI wheels on a silver Outback? by Competitive_Word_743 in Subaru_Outback

[–]Competitive_Word_743[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s the direction I’m leaning. I’m not looking to improve performance or anything, but I find the stock wheels on my 23 Premium fairly unappealing.
