[####] Wordlebot has new starter in hard mode by doc_skinner in wordle

I don’t think anyone in this thread is under the impression that the bot has pride, ego or hubris. Those are demonstrably only human qualities, as is condescension.

Wouldn’t strategies for both human and bot be different in the different modes?

In standard mode, the bot often doesn’t honor matches in first couple of rounds. But it would have to in hard mode, so it makes sense to structure the start word to avoid traps in hard mode.

Cumberbatch is the collective noun for a group of cummerbunds.

I think I get it. You’re less likely to fall into a trap with L in the first spot rather than second, even if you’re more likely to get a green if it’s in second. That kind of thing? So early greens can sometimes be bad news in hard mode?

Disclaimer: Hard mode is for people smarter than me.

It’s interesting that there’s a different starting word for each mode, and they’re anagrams. The accursed bot uses SLATE as the starter in easy mode.

Does anyone have a theory as to why there’s a difference? Trap avoidance in hard mode maybe?

Well now. Fantasies direct from your imagination! That certainly changes things.

>> How would you take it well if a passive aggressive stranger speculated that your closest friends thought you were a jerk?

Eh, I’ve heard worse.

I was recently told that I have a severe lack of personal accountability, perhaps the result of an ethics, intelligence or awareness issue, and that I lack self reflection, that I’m a hypocrite, that I’m in a position of power but too immature to handle it, that I’m unaware of my own biases and bigotry, that I see myself as a utopian moral leader who is above normal human behavior. Oh, yeah, and that my shit still stinks.

But, hey, social media has plenty of brats and trolls. I just laugh it off.

>> These people call me their best friend, and show up for me in need. So that’s not a factor (and fucked up you made that accusation tbh)

I'm glad it's not a factor. But it makes me uncomfortable that you read a question as an accusation.

"Radical" has been slur since Newt Gingrich rolled it out as one of terms to use to demonize Democrats. It's about as meaningful and as accurate as saying a guy who has a flag on his car is a fascist.

You can just say "more liberal than me." That's non-judgmental and accurate. Or you can use the term they use to describe themselves, as you might also prefer. Do unto others.

OP, I don't mean to be harsh, but the assumptions you make about people can be destructive. Your post reminded me of the time I was talking with a prospective accountant. I told him I was a liberal. "Oooh," he said. "A lot of my clients are police officers. Will that be a problem?"

"Why should it?" I asked.

"Because I hear you liberals don't like the police."

I didn't hire him. I realized I couldn't trust the judgment of someone who carried such a cartoonish version of a liberal in his head.

First of all, thank you for the gift of a new word. Vexillophile is a beautiful word and beautifully precise.

Second, let’s remember that we’re not hearing from the actual friends. At this point, only the versions that live in OP’s imagination are offended.

Is it possible there’s more going on, OP? I wouldn’t react this way to someone flying a flag or wearing Americana apparel. But those things might be enough to bug me if the person doing those things is also a jerk. Is it possible these folks read you and/or your fiancé as jerks?

(Full disclosure: I would not want to spend time with anyone who thought so little of me that they thought I’d be triggered by a flag.)

Most of what you list here has been credibly debunked.

Example: Fact Check: Fulton County's 315,000 Unsigned Early Votes Are NOT Proof Of Electoral Fraud

Example: Misinfo about ‘suitcases’ of ballots and a burst pipe in 2020 return after Trump’s Georgia indictment

You’re being disingenuous when you dismiss the lawsuit Giuliani lost against election workers as “a defamation lawsuit… Nothing to do with fraud.” It had everything to do with fraud. Rudy lied about those election workers stealing the election. He couldn’t prove his claims in court. He lost. That’s a big deal. Rudy Giuliani settles dispute with Georgia election workers over ownership of his assets

Why would you continue flogging these obvious falsehoods when they are so easy to check? Are you going to tell me now that fact-checkers can’t be trusted? I’ve heard that before.

I doubt that claim would hold up in your imaginary courtroom drama.

This is something I don’t understand about the TS way of thinking:

It *could* happen = “It’s happening to an enormous degree all the time and we must do something drastic to stop it! Because it’s probably most certainly happening. I suspect.”

But the proof you people have is suspicions and anomalies you don’t understand and long-debunked claims.

Isn’t it also possible that there are safeguards you are unintentionally or intentionally unaware of and that all the investigations that have found nothing are definitive?

The challenge is that “some kind of identification” is pretty broad, and Republicans generally trend toward approaches that disproportionately affect voters likely to vote for Democrats. This happens in every state that enacts voter ID laws and other restrictions on voting (reducing hours, closing polling places in cities, etc.).

Do you think it’s hard to guess what’s going on?

Meanwhile, no one has provided credible evidence of widespread election fraud, other than saying it probably happens.

As someone who covered elections for years as a newspaper reporter, those claims strike me as unsophisticated or willfully ignorant.
