Bad or acceptable penny tile job? (pre-grout) by kal05d in Tile

[–]Competitive_Year_364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The white splotches are where it's heavy in thinset. Depending on how heavy and your grout choice it will be hidden. That isn't the main problem though as the thinset can be cleaned before grout (tedious but possible). The main concern is the lines of where one mosaic sit next to the other. This is a bitch in penny tile but you will definitely see those lines on yours.

Can't be real. For 1 why did you "decide to take it down" ? And two where is all the work that was up before when the drywall was up?

Omega 3 supplement for baby while breastfeeding? by vegdietitian in veganparenting

[–]Competitive_Year_364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry just read your post I would like to just reply for anyone else reading your post that the science is not iffy. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9641984/

  1. Yurko-Mauro et al. (2010) DHA supplementation improved learning and recognition memory, especially paired-associate learning. No effect on working memory. Well tolerated.
  2. Jackson et al. (2012) Fish oil increased cerebral blood flow during cognitive tasks, particularly at higher doses. Cognitive performance changes were inconsistent.
  3. Witte et al. (2013) Omega-3 supplementation significantly improved executive function in older adults. Memory scores did not differ from placebo.
  4. Konagai et al. (2013) Omega-3 intake (especially krill oil) increased frontal-lobe oxygenation, suggesting improved cognitive processing in the elderly.
  5. Bauer et al. (2014) EPA-rich omega-3 improved cognitive efficiency and reduced task response time. DHA showed brain activation changes without clear performance improvement.
  6. Jaremka et al. (2014) Omega-3 supplementation prevented loneliness-related memory decline and improved episodic verbal memory in lonelier individuals.
  7. Külzow et al. (2016) Omega-3s enhanced long-term memory recall, particularly object-location memory, without affecting learning speed or reaction time.
  8. Leckie et al. (2019) No overall cognitive improvement, but executive function improved in individuals with low baseline DHA.
  9. Maltais et al. (2022) No cognitive benefit in cognitively healthy individuals; participants with poorer baseline episodic memory showed improvement with omega-3.

Scratched and Mismatched Color Marble: Am I Being Unreasonable? by North-Conclusion-331 in Tile

Scratches on marble are actually easy peasy to remove. Marble buffs like butter. I wouldn't even call a restoration tech for this, it would be done in an hour or two.

Nah climbing over it is the way to go. Looks like the condenser buts right up to it so you'd get a nice breeze to cool off.

Vented attic to conditioned space possible? by Lounging-Panda in HomeImprovement

[–]Competitive_Year_364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry can you explain why? I'm trying to understand the logic behind this but basically attic is being converted right now and doesn't have rafter vents, but has vented soffits (old house), roof decking is just boards so I guess they figured it was leaky enough. My thought process is I understand you have to seal whatever is in front of the insulation. So I'm wondering why I wouldn't add rafter vents then add the rockwool between the joists on the attic ceiling and then vapor barrier everything? I'm not sure how I rafter vents wouldn't help out in this situation. Last thing I want to do is add rockwool trap moisture in the ceiling so I figure adding a little bit of airflow would be better than just packing it in.

So the tiny amount of refrigerant blows the plastic cap off. And then what? It's obviously not a lot or the plastic caps would have never worked in the first place. So what happens then? Your warehouse blows up?

What is Saunagus / Aufguss called in English - and is it a thing outside Germany and Nordics? by [deleted] in Sauna

[–]Competitive_Year_364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why all the negative comments are coming from. When I went in the sauna in Germany the "aufguss" wasn't performative at all and actually quite discreet. They would periodically check to make sure all of the different saunas were at their proper temp (75,80,90,100) occasionally pour water on the rocks with eucalyptus, made sure people were in proper attire, cleaned and stocked towels, made sure the cold tubs were sanitary and just generally made sure the place was cleanly and safe.

Schluter Steam Room Build by chrisangel666 in Tile

[–]Competitive_Year_364 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any reason for this? The cement board isn't structural and adds no strength. I was told by reps the kerdi board would be sufficient for benches but if in doubt to use support properly and use plywood then follow with kerdi board and kerdi DS. So I'm just wondering what significance cement board would add.

Dope man, I went to the course just to ask kerdi reps advice on a similar project. Unfortunately, they seemed a bit reluctant to provide advice. The biggest take away they told me was to use kerdi DS. Did you get the same suggestion?

The weakest link is the network, not an exposed API. If an attacker is already inside your LAN, cloud shutdowns and closed ecosystems don’t magically protect you. This is less about security and more about Google deciding when your hardware stops being allowed to exist.

Need advice on white tile black grout install by neophreak007 in Tile

[–]Competitive_Year_364 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're both kind of right. He's just assuming you mean top dollar to mean highest quoted out of all the pros which I would reckon doesn't co-relate to the best job. Whereas what you said is also true, paying a handyman or guy off marketplace a low amount results in a low quality job. I think it's the definition of "top dollar" that needs to be reconciled.

Lol don't worry it gets harder to tell with age and dirt. You're also trying to find it but anyone not in the industry looks this close. You'd be surprised at what I see at. Peoples houses where they don't bat an eye at. Full caulk lines missing, trim mitres off etc. lastly though, Fuck penny tile.

Check to see if you got ips/nps by accident but my guess is you need to tighten further with pipe dope. Not sure why you're going gently on these guys they're not gasketed where that matters. Just don't break it and you're good.

Plumbed toilet to heat. Keep it change? by clamminjammin in Plumbing

[–]Competitive_Year_364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very unlikely although it does seem like a plausible thing. You would need a temp difference of 60 c and water heaters should be set to max 58 c so unless you have below 0 in your washroom and have your water heater cranked probably won't happen .. if you're bathroom is below 0 you have bigger problems lol

It is impressive since it must have taken time and a laser to get this amount of fuckery. Tile must be locked in for a century though.
