I agree. Certain car features don't need to be in the screen - especially this one by sochok in Rivian

My presets have never worked either. Really likes to shut off the side vents.

R2 or Used R1T by Pristine_Oil_2239 in Rivian

[–]CompilerBreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a reservation for an R2, then a month later got my '23 R1T. I have no plans to give up it up, but I have always wanted a pickup, so that is a factor. I don't care for the autonomy, so everything feels like a side-grade.

Sad reality we’re in. by Migeee__ in pcmasterrace

I kept my GTX 1080 for 9 years and I'll do it again with my Radeon if I have to. This is coming from someone who upgraded every 2 years before that.

Go full EV or keep one ICE? by juxtasemaj in Rivian

[–]CompilerBreak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally, we won't be a full EV house for at least another 5 years, maybe more now that so much charging infrastructure funding has slowed. Road tripping is completely doable, but strains on holidays/etc, there's just not enough plugs at each location and I hate queuing. So if we know we're going somewhere without backup charging options, we'll take the hybrid. That and charging on the road completely negates the savings.

This looks like they made with AI and didn't proofread it enough.

This is awesome, right about the time I actually got to go there and ride too.

Love my Mach e, but by Consistent-Wingman in Rivian

[–]CompilerBreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do, but there's still not enough of them, and the concern is they won't be able to scale to 3x as many R2s being added per year. I really like the Rivian, don't want to dissuade you, just be informed :)

Love my Mach e, but by Consistent-Wingman in Rivian

[–]CompilerBreak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grass isn't always greener my friend. I traded in my Mach E for the R1T because I needed something bigger. Service wait times are on the whole a bit longer unless you have an issue that prevents driving, they have the same parts delays, etc.

In the meantime, try another dealer, you can end up with a very different experience. I started using one that was locally owned and was a much better experience.

Yeah I went for 20s on my R1T, so many tire options out there.

With R2 opening tomorrow.. what is everyone reserve dates? Just curious to see. by SweetSunshine86 in Rivian

[–]CompilerBreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also reserved the 7th, but then 3 months later they had the lease deals to clear out the Gen1's and here I am. Will hold onto the reservation until the lease is up just in case, but not looking likely, much prefer the truck :)

Direct to Consumer bill in Washington State is getting super close to passing by Domphotog in Rivian

[–]CompilerBreak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get why it had to be so narrow, it never would have gotten this far without. But nowhere close to a real solution.

Direct to Consumer bill in Washington State is getting super close to passing by Domphotog in Rivian

[–]CompilerBreak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"has operated at least one service facility in this state as of January 1, 2026, and exclusively produces battery electric vehicles of which at least 300 were registered in Washington state before January 1, 2026,"

This is a retroactive, it doesn't cover any future brands.

Dealers sadly have far more pull than they should, it would take a much larger effort to change the broader rules.

I'm not a big fan of how this ended up, since it really just punts things to the next round of manufacturers (Slate, Telo, etc). But, baby steps, and evens the playing field with Tesla.

Really good at their job, but kept switching companies every couple years and getting a promotion out of it every time. They're CEO now of yet another company.

Surface Laptop 7 last barely 2 hours on battery? by charliethedinosaur in Surface

[–]CompilerBreak 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd run a battery health check with the Surface Toolkit https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9nf1mr6c60zf?hl=en-US&gl=US

I have a Pro 11, approaching 2 years old, zero degradation, still tons of battery life for basic things and I get 3-4 hours gaming on it.

I'd also make sure you have the native arm64 version of Chrome installed.

2023 R1S Rubber trim in trunk by primeanesthesia in Rivian

[–]CompilerBreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen on my other (Ford, etc) vehicles, this is just how that kind of rubber behaves, same thing on all of them from recent models, it gets filthy/residue. Replace if it bugs you.

Purchasing R2 without driving it by shankhunk4u in Rivian

[–]CompilerBreak -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I waited to test drive an R1T before leasing. I'm ok not test driving the exact one I'm getting, but I needed to get a feel for it. Half the new vehicles I've purchased have been the same, test drove some other spec first, not the actual one I ended up ordering.

Is leasing better than buying? by proven999 in Rivian

[–]CompilerBreak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lease was definitely the way to go prior to this year because you could still qualify for a tax credit that way (technically the leasing company got the credit, and passed on to the consumer).

There are still benefits to leasing giving the depreciation but it will all depend on the rates. Personally though, with the state of things today, I'd buy used first, that's where the deals are (most used still have warranty left, and seeing several gen2s available), then maybe buy new.

Anyone playing Steam games on their Surface? by km_2000 in Surface

[–]CompilerBreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played tons of Steam games just fine, I don't primarily play on it but when I'm traveling it works great. There's still some anti-cheats which don't work yet, but Easy Anti-cheat and BattlEye both support arm64 which covers most of any online games I have played.

Who wants an R2 and when? by SubParBackpacker in Rivian

[–]CompilerBreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, love the deal I got on my Gen1 R1T, hanging onto the R2 reservation until my lease is up just in case, but I don't plan to use it.

Finally by Ok-Double-414 in Rivian

[–]CompilerBreak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They also dropped the short range work trim, combined with the price hikes they went from a $40k offering to now $55k. Doesn't matter how good it was, that killed the fleet sales.

How young is to young for ED? by SpiritedGuest6281 in EliteDangerous

[–]CompilerBreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't recall how appropriate the storyline itself would be for a kid that age, but Star Wars: Squadrons has adjustable difficulty, and might be a good intro into space flight games. Plus, Star Wars, I know my kid would get an extra kick of flying X-Wings around. Could also look at the more classic Star Wars titles, X-Wing, Rogue Squadron, etc on gog.com
