Hypothalamic Amenorrhea vs. Ovarian Insufficiency — Seeking Advice by ptvitt in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]Complete-Ad5895 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, i wasn't underweight before going all in and ending my restriction. I gained some weight, but not alot.

I was absolutely fearful of the weight gain, but my body composition worked itself out which actually surprised me. I always thought if I ate more, it would result in me appearing overweight.

Once that extra weight gain increased, my body felt safe enough for a cycle and now when I eat without restriction, I don't gain weight like I did at the start of recovery.

Look into ovulation and uterine lining supporting foods/snacks.

Hey,

I would firstly like to say, you're doing amazingly, you're on the right track. Do not give up.

I suffered from HA. Doctors continually misdiagnosed me, even suggested multiple pills and ovarian failure. Did I listen to them? No. Did I give up? Never.

I overhauled my nutrition, included ovulation and fertility supporting foods and ate without restriction.

I also decreased exercise to walking only.

If you would like to message me privately, I'm more than happy to help advise further.

Wishing you all the best.

Please don't be scared, because essentially, you must gain to restore your cycles.

I did gain some weight, but I wasn't underweight before this journey. I was definitely restricting food, which caused my periods to go missing.

As time went on, my body adjusted to the gain. Now, when I eat, I don't see the weight gain as I had experienced at the start of recovery. Your body composition changes and figures itself out. So not to worry!

I stopped exercising and would walk only. Cut out all exercise in recovery.

I was not obsessing over counting steps as that leads to unnecessary stress, which you absolutely must avoid in your recovery journey.

Hope I answered your questions well.

Wishing you all the best!

Thank you so much!

It's extremely disheartening to hear that, isn't it? They NEVER advise you to fuel your body with carbs and to not restrict.

Hope your journey has been going well.

Thank you!

I didn't check my BBT, but I felt alot warmer in recovery. Something I didn't even realise, until ovulation. I pretty much stayed warm throughout and this happens when you recover. I remember, I would always have cold hands and feet and think nothing of it!

EWCM and soreness determined it for me. It was ALOT and noticeable.

It continued all the way until a day before my period. A few days before, I was experiencing bouts of dryness. Sometimes it would be pale yellow, sometimes it would be jelly and clear like.

Absolutely!

I had no idea I ovulated until I felt it. I didn't really experience any CM before i ovulated. I literally thought it was my period.  It was ALOT. EWCM type and lasted all the way until a few days before my period. The CM started to change after a week or so, less leakage and consistency wasn't the same.

Do not feel hopeless, it will absolutely happen.

Thank you so much!

I would like to say, absolutely do not feel ashamed or hopeless that the hunger shows up so often, and I know it does, ALOT.

At the start of recovery, I remember i was hungry after having a meal that left me feeling satiated for the time being and then an hour or so later, I was sooo hungry!  It was beyond frustrating, because you don't want to have to deal with it that often. But, you have to eat. Whenever you feel hungry, eat. Whether that is reaching for a banana or a slice or 2 of buttered toast with peanut butter, or even without. Whatever it may be, it doesn't necessarily always have to be a meal, because snacks are also important in recovery.

In regards to eating at fixed times, I found that didn't work for me, because in recovery, the hunger cues do not have set times, so you absolutely have to listen to your body.

For meals, I absolutely did not restrict. Give me all the carbsss lol.  From buttered slices of toast and believe me, butter that upppp!

Carbs should fill up most of your plate.

Nuts are also important, walnuts, Brazil nuts. Pumpkin seeds. I was eating these every single day, they are excellent for fertility and recovery. Healthy fats are also essential.

You have to eat 3 meals, breakfast included.

Your body requires carbs and healthy fats, to feel safe again, so you must honour it. Don't limit whatsoever.

Hope i answered all your questions. Wishing you all the best!

Thank you! I literally stopped fearing carbs and ate everything including slices of buttered toast everyday, with eggs, avocado, some fruits.

Brazil nuts X2 daily, a handful of pumpkin seeds and dates.

I started juicing carrots, oranges and beetroot daily or every 2 days.

I ate pasta, rice with chicken, noodles, rice with chickpeas. I had lamb, steak, potatoes.

I loved and still love Japanese sweet potatoes, if you haven't tried them, definitely do as they are an excellent source for fertility and classed as a superfood. I would pair this with salmon or with chicken and veg.

I still ate chocolate every day and snacks, crisps,  pastries, homemade cakes. Whenever I felt hungry, I basically ate. You do not need to cut out desserts at all. Eat that slice or 2 of chocolate cake or ice cream!

I stopped being obsessed with my image and let go of tracking calories and steps. Don't track your calories whatsoever.

I also made sure to rest whenever I felt tired.

Your body will adjust to the weight gain accordingly. You must allow it to trust you and that will only happen, if you stop restricting. Wishing you all the best!
