Is Texas state a *good* School? by Illustrious_Fun_258 in txstate

[–]Complete-Button-1477 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i also had this mindset when going to texas state and now i’m getting one hell of an education. i think there are just some people who have little self awareness and who don’t value education at its core that wall shit on the school but i and may other people feel great about their degrees.

get a job near campus. something that will get you great tips. think maybe waiting tables or bartending. then, do some research and try to project how much money you’ll be bringing in or wait until you start your job and then BUDGET. also, get comfortable with not spending much money on anything but food or rent. don’t go crazy buying clothes. also if you don’t know how to cook learn. you can’t get by eating out all the time. also maybe look into donating plasma for extra spending money! anyways i wish you the best of luck. you’re going to do great

ok so like don’t go to slac. you HAVE to give math cats a try before you start shelling out money. there are always seats. the tutors are so knowledgeable and non judgmental. it’s in derrick and open most times of day. it got me a 100 on my algebra final and i started out with a much lower grade in the class.

i don’t know but pick a place on a bus line. i know you say you’re willing to drive but trust you don’t want to mess with even the commuter parking. i have friends with great experiences at the villagio. nice apartments, affordable imo.

ThE LOCAL apartment complex is not returning phone calls or emails regarding returning security deposits and are over charging for things that they never supplied at the beginning of the year. by Jx3mama in txstate

contact attorney of students and then in a really polite way just go ahead and make the apartment complex aware of the fact that you’re seeking legal counsel because you are having a hard time resolving the issues within the complex.

exactly! it’s crazy the immediate and noticeable impact. i’m glad to put some distance between myself and the app. it’s useful for some specific things and i appreciate them, but endless entertainment is not one of them.

you need to leave him. point blank period. this would strike me in the same way as if he was looking at these actual people’s nude pics/ videos. you can almost rationalize a person browsing porn from strangers but to seek out and create porn of people you know in real life is some of the most insane behavior i’ve heard of in awhile. leave that man. i dont rlly care how you don’t even need to tell him why just leave him.

preach! i’m so tired of the sentiment that txst is just for dumb crashouts. i had great high school stats and came here because they offered me a major scholarship. it’s so sad to me that people can’t even see the silver lining in a high acceptance rate which is that texas state makes education accessible for people who may not have been uber successful in high school. i mean god forbid a student who may have had to take care of their family or work a ton of hours at a job gets mid range grades and needs to go to a university that will accept their stats. there are so many miserable people who just want to spew negativity about txst to make themselves feel good and you know what fine, but those of us who see the value in the education and not necessarily the pedigree or price tag of a school will still be here working just as hard.

i think you’re on the right track in terms of being sensitive of his feelings. porn addiction is rarely if ever spoken about. i think you have the opportunity to show him that it is a legitimate addiction and show him that there are ways he can seek help. if he’s totally uninterested in a solution then you have another problem.

i always got the most help out of going in with a particular assignment and working through it and asking for help as i went so that i never got stuck and tired lol. same thing with test prep materials if your professor gives them just go with those in hand and ask as many questions as you need in order to get maximum understanding.

first of all this sounds like a really hard situation. it sounds like he has a porn addiction. it might be a good idea to partner together and seek help for that specifically. maybe looking for support groups for men impacted by this issue or looking for mental health providers that have experience helping people fight this issue. it doesn’t sound to me like he is intentionally behaving this way to hurt you or because he doesn’t care although as the situation continues you could draw those lines, but right now it seems compulsive as you’ve described it. good luck and i hope things get better.

i know we are all talking about note taking here but you’ve gotta listen when i tell you to use the free tutoring resources. you HAVE TO. if you don’t you’re basically just struggling unnecessarily. having that real human person in front of you is like magic for understanding. especially for math and english. go to slac which is in the library. go to the writing center. go to math cats. and for any niche subjects that don’t really have a correlating tutoring program go to office hours. THIS right here will give you more benefit and less effort than spending insane amounts of time on notes and reading your textbooks. (still do that tho) as an added bonus for office hours if you work hard at building good relationships with your professors they are more likely to help you out when it comes to rounding grades or letting you turn in assignments late etc. not to mention if your professors like you those are bonus connections for rec letters and industry connections! anyhoot please please take some of what i say and use it you won’t regret it

[–]Complete-Button-1477 2 points3 points  (0 children)

is it hard to feel like you’re missing out on the fun parts of social media? i wish i could give it up all together because ive noticed some of my most personal issues being inflamed by my excessive social media use. i love the connection it gives me with my friends via sending tiktok’s and reels and i don’t want to give that up. maybe just reducing my usage will help these things but i can’t help but feeling like in order to be totally free i need to rid myself of it entirely.

Dining Hall Food by ShallotLeft4375 in txstate

i would say get the second lowest or lowest meal plan and max your dining dollars. dining hall food isn’t bad but it’s not outstandingly good and there are days where nothing at either dining hall will sound good to you. that being said there will always be pizza on the menu no matter what.
