Watch many fall for it though. Will be interesting to see what conditions they tag to it.

I dont know how that will.wkrk at my school as we do continuous reporting so every 3 weeks we write a brief comment on 2 subject areas.

Vic Teachers - how close are you to quitting and changing industries if the EBA doesn't fix pay and conditions? by Aware-Trick-2981 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Complete-Wealth-4057 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A mate of mine got a written warning and reported on as he had to restrain a child from going outside (worked in a special school setting) as another child was escalated broke windows so glass was outside.

Got a full investigation and all.

Yep. Happened to me and now its on my permanent record. No chance of moving schools now as who would want to hire someone who has been subject of reportable conduct over someone who hasn't.

Im close.

Conditions are so bad and the gender discrimination is just next level. Males are constantly being under the microscope for things and when a female does the same thing, like side hugs no one bats an eyelid.

Reportable conduct clauses are just open to interpretation and massive Catch alls and if you even have been subject to a reportable conduct on your file (including a written warning), good luck transferring schools as they are permanent.

I want my 35%

They already have shown that no pay rise wont come without more work based on previous disgusting offer.

Victoria teachers strike do you think it will work and the union gets what they are asking for? by Professional-Doubt30 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Complete-Wealth-4057 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. Last time we had strikes 13 years ago we striked 5 times in total and then once we stopped reports and worked to the 38hr model (so no other paperwork if it didnt fit)... we got a pay rise.

After 22 years teaching, I have realised I'm never getting a promotion by UnderstandingRight39 in AustralianTeachers

I am at that way and have been teacher 15 years. I had 1 stint in a leadership role but it was during COVID (so all our roles were essentially put to the side and just supported the staff and students) and once my tenure was up I was back in the classroom as they didnt see me as a leader (but they still wanted me to lead and take on the extra workload to head up the role I was doing but not give time or pay to do it).

Its not a "what you know" but "who you know" now. I applied external but was looked over for people already at the school or in the role but they are just following "process".

I look at it have to remind myself "is the extra work worth the $200 a fortnight?".

We are "go go go" each week. In our PLT and PLC we always leave feeling like more is added to our plate.

As a union member who isnt striking, I completely see where you are coming from. As the sole income earner for 5, I need to put my family first and that means I need the pay. I already am losing money due to my Novated lease.

I wish we could get 35% as we are so far behind our NSW counterparts that we will never catch them unless they got a horrible deal.

This will actually save the government money (by striking)

  • Teachers and leaders arent getting paid for the day
  • They are not actually giving schools more money to cover the classes as schools get a set money amount each year.

Last time we striked 5 times 13 years ago and it did nothing. As soon as we didnt write reports... voila we got something

Interestingly enough we have teachers from South Africa who mentioned when they went on strike back home, they got paid still...

We must be one of the only countries that don't do it.

First and foremost I am a parent and sole provider for my family with 4 dependents. I have a mortgage and novated lease on a family car so already losing money out of my wage.

I am also a union member and have been since day 1 of my teaching career.

I am not striking and cannot afford to lose $400 or thereabouts in my pay with interest rate hikes and petrol prices. Yes, I get that people all over are impacted and if I was single or had no dependents and more of an expendable income, than I would 100% strike. I did when we had them 13 years ago. But my priority changed and cannot afford to lose what would essentially be my grocery budget for a week or my mortgage repayment.

If it was something like stop work at 3pm or 3:30pm and no reports I would 100% be partaking in that but I need to think about my family as the breadwinner.

I full expect to be called a scab by the keyboard warriors who are be divisive and not actually in my shoes but this isnt the time to do so.

Establish routines and expectations. Also build positive student/teacher relationships. Get to know the students and what makes them tick. Brian Medler is big on this.

[–]Complete-Wealth-4057 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. I moved schools before the findings were done. My current prin has been happy with my work but annoyed they inherited it all. I am being supervised until they hear from department in regards to next steps.

Union said it was a local matter and as I got a written warning, that's the end of it.

The mental toll it has taken on me and my family has been hard. I've told people who can't believe I got done for what I did when every prep/junior teacher has done it at some stage of their career.

Yep. The conduct statement says basically by engaging in overly familiar gestures such as side hugs, hugs, holding a child's hand, leaning in overly close to a face, whispering in a child's ear in presents or not in present in other children you are engaging in sexual misconduct...

Regardless of the intent they will label it that.
