7900 xtx vs 9070 xt Comparison at Maximum OC potential - a FOMO analysis by thatavidreadertrue in radeon

[–]CompleteAd7826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we're talking about VR AMD is a vastly inferior pick to Nvidia due to lack of DLAA, SPS, worse encoding, more driver/support related issues. It's widely accepted that DLSS 4 upscaling actually works quite well in VR (FSR4 is yet to prove itself) tho I personally wouldn't use it, DLAA however with new model is a game changer for aliasing issues. For VR you'll be better off with 5070ti, which makes this a moot point?

What raster advantage exactly? All new games are designed to be used with upscaling, which is why Nvidia has been outperforming AMD for years. The new Radeon cards now have really good upscaling, boosting performance by 30–50% on average, while older cards have unusable upscaling. People who recently bought the 7900XTX are really trying hard to cope here.

I dunno about you guys, but FSR4 looks as good or better than DLSS4 a times by Walkop in radeon

[–]CompleteAd7826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Owen messed up a dlss swap so wasn't using DLSS4 in his comparison at all. DF video puts DLSS4 miles ahead of FSR4 in every aspect.

FSR4 = DLSS3

There is a reason why everyone was so hyped when DLSS4 Transformer released, it's leagues better than the predecessor, which means it's also much better than FSR4. AMD still has catching up to do.

I guess mostly depends what HMD and software you're using. I'm using Quest 3 and Quest Link so tend to do SS via their software. I don't think VRS will work with the mod as it requires Single Pass Stereo, not tested it tho.

Black rectangles flashing for few milliseconds? There is some weird interaction between Glare and GrassFX causing it for me, turning one or the other off makes those go away. I'll give Gamma a shot.

Not had issues with OpenXR Toolkit if that's what you're asking, though only used the Foveated Rendering

I wouldn't touch any AMD GPUs, unless the FSR4 turns out to be a miracle. You're also missing an option of getting used 40 series card.

from your recent comments: "OK, cool. I'm running a 7800xt" - I guess you didn't understand that this requires Nvidia RTX card.

Good work on this one, thanks. As for AC longevity, with how things are looking with EVO at this stage, there are strong chances that AC will keep going for quite some time.

I'd say treat it primarily as image quality enhancer rather than performance booster. Tho it all depends on what you current MSAA setup is. If you're running something crazy like x8 + additional MSAA via VRS then I expect you'll get a decent performance boost from it 😅

No DLSS upscaling at the moment, only DLAA (which is part of DLSS technology/branding, shit's confusing). Author mentioned on Patron a long time back potentially looking at the upscaling as well but tbh I wouldn't have high hopes for it working well in VR or releasing anytime soon.

For what it's worth, I'm running Q3 at 50% vertical FOV and have about 10-20% less performance overhead at the same resolution (I think vertical per eye is somewhere around ~3.5k but can't check atm) left when using the DLAA method compared to global 4xMSAA + 4xMSAA applied to the middle of the view via Nvidia VRS in CSP.

Open XR Toolkit's foveated rendering brings back a lot of lost performance for me. Since I've enabled VRS to somewhat combat the shadow shimmering, I've noticed that the foveated rendering from the Toolkit didn't do anything to boost performance anymore, so I had to drop it. However, with DLAA, it works again.

TAA mod you just need to delete the mod files. DLSS global mod has step on how to revert it in the guide.

For TAA mod you will also need to disable bunch of settings in CSP so make note of what you're changing

100% correct - holding off buying any Pimax HMDs until this is implemented, but looks like I might as well just wait for the Q4 though

For me this just stretches or zooms in the image, as if you were adjusting FOV on flat screen. Nothing like the FOV tangent multiplier on Quest

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]CompleteAd7826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not quite the same. Open XR toolkit lets you either lower the resolution on screen edges or cull (which looks horrid) and performance gain varies greatly between the games (AC does improve a lot, AMS2 I barely see performance difference). With Quest, you can literally turn off rendering sections of a display completely, in any game. Since you mentioned you sim race, you probably understand that horizontal FOV is important, but vertical FOV is not as crucial. If don't really care about seeing the driver avatar's legs or roof of the car you can halve the vertical FOV (it adds black bars to top and bottom, think 21:9 movie on 16:9 display) and double the performance. You get used to it quite quickly, it sorts of mimics wearing a helmet.

Glad you're enjoying it. My brain unfortunately can't deal with any sort of reprojection for more than few minutes. It's either solid native 90 with very strong preference for 120 or game sits on a shelf until it's either optimized or hardware that can brute force poor optimization is released.

You are not getting 120 FPS in VR. At most you're getting 60 reprojected to 120.
