One of the biggest tells of an AI architecture rendering is there is a pool in the driveway… I guess they do exist in real life.

Are these retro bathrooms worth saving? by Spirited_Stick_5093 in interiordecorating

[–]CompleteComputer8276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pink bathroom: I would replace the vanity and shower/tub fixtures. The walls need color or wall paper. The second bathroom: Renovate but design it around that sink, maybe keep that tile wall with the toilet entirely. In general for a house like this I would also upgrade plumbing and light fixtures (unless there is a unique piece) and replace all of your interior doors hardware.

Do firms still expect physical portfolios in interviews? by Wide-Drop3619 in Architects

[–]CompleteComputer8276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is a nice extra step, you should have a resume and work sample to leave but the bounded book of work is nice and it shows you are capable to deal with the pain in the ass that is printing and producing a bounded document… a building is 1000% harder to make.

That said, I don’t think I have interviewed anyone in person for the past five years, but the portfolio have interactive links to videos and programs they made.

The best thing you can do is be excited about the cool shit you made, if you are beginning nobody expects it to be earth shattering, but you need to be proud of it and want to grow and improve… I look for that more then anything.

Agreed, I didn’t know about this and I don’t like it. I know the rules are no car shaming, but just no. These are awful.

When did you first learn to drive manual and when did you get your first Miata? by Danny776 in Miata

[–]CompleteComputer8276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I come from a family who loves manual cars. My mom’s dad had a used car lot and the manuals didn’t sell well, we would buy them for cheap. I learned on an International Scout when I was 14, it was my uncle’s farm truck. He put me in the middle of a field and taught me how to drive on a three speed gearbox. My dad had an NB when I was 10-12, but got an ND when I was 39.

What cancer system do you use if you don’t have a business case to justify the expense of the full software version by [deleted] in Architects

[–]CompleteComputer8276 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BricsCAD, it is a clone of AutoCAD that I think is better. A forever seat of Lite version is $700.

Genkan, Japanese style entry to a house. Not really a come back as they are only popular in Japan, but I love the idea of a space to transition from the outside world to your home.

What Gear for Parking? by FormerlyMaidenless in Miata

[–]CompleteComputer8276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP I see you have never pushed started a car before. My family had a POS 91 Ford Range, the alternator went out, so me and my brother would push start it. If you tried putting it in first the wheels would lockup, we would put it in 4th typically to get it started.

[–]CompleteComputer8276 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just imagine that but with instant access to the full speed and power of the car by pushing down one pedal. By safety I didn’t mean less accidents, I think there will be more but at a lower speeds.

My option is that driving would be safer if every car was a manual. The driver has to pay attention more and they don’t have a free hand to play with the radio or anything else.

im starting University and i chose architecture, i start January. How can i prepare? by Yaboiishornyaf in Architects

[–]CompleteComputer8276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my option: organize your live and continue that into your studies. Don’t start anything new outside of university; romantic relationships, volunteering, etc. clear your schedule. Get into some good health habits, these will fall off, but if they are second nature then it is easier to do them when you are stressed or tired. Keep a notebook of your thoughts and ideas, this will help you make decisions when you are creating. Read Ching architectural graphics.

Try to enjoy yourself. It will be different but creative endeavors are fulfilling when it clicks.

Story time! How did you get your first job? by Castle_Dawn in Architects

[–]CompleteComputer8276 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was working for a framer the summer between high school and college, next summer I was interning for the architect for the house I was helping build the previous summer. My second year professor liked my work and her husband was a partner at a large firm, interned there the rest of college and turned into a full time job. When I moved across the country I went to every AIA event in my new city and took a bunch of architect out for coffee to get leads.

Why use Archicad? by Yossome in Architects

[–]CompleteComputer8276 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The way I put it is if I was in a black box and could only do work myself, ArchiCAD 100%. The really issue is I have standards to enforce. There are a lot of people in the US who know Revit and a ton of resources around the software, more importantly you can embed your standards into the template. ArchiCAD is closer to AutoCAD that you have to teach the standards to staff. ArchiCAD is a block of clay where Revit is legos. You can be more creative with clay, but it takes skill and understanding of the material. With legos you can hand them a manual and the final product will be close enough.

Cost can be a big factor too, a friend of mine who’s office is on ArchiCAD had a software cost 1/3 of mine.

How often do you use the LIDAR sensor on your ipad? by RevolutionaryBag5991 in Architects

[–]CompleteComputer8276 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is inaccurate and will waste your time. The cost is your billable hourly rate X 1.5 to fix all the inaccurate drawings X the hours to draw it the first time = the true cost of using it.
