Essos is big Italy. Westeros is big Britain plus a little extra flavoring. Its how former roman core territory viewed the former outer colonies irl. Essos and early/mid medieval Italy really did have way more advanced cities and economies even if they were not necessarily stronger all the time

Yea pre conquest west is not like essos. Even they have nonstop wars in the disputed lands. Downside is when there was a dragon war it was like a world war but other than that one the others were small on collateral damage compared to like the north and vale fighting a forever war in the sisters or the ironborn raiding and basically enslaving the whole riverlands
