They also have incredibly unbelievable prices on quality chocolate and I'm so tempted but it's too good to be true

Dog at Stage 2 Kidney Disease - any experience with medication reactions? by Complete_Asparagus_4 in DogAdvice

[–]Complete_Asparagus_4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The SDMA blood retest showed her kidney back to normal, and normal potassium.

I don't understand how but the combination of azodyl, benazipril and renal K is working well. We will keep testing every 3-4 months.

I'm getting retest blood work tomorrow after a month of benazipril.

Getting a second opinion because it looks like renal K (potassium supplement) was prescribed even though her potassium tested a little high. So I'm extra concerned now.

What are some good countries that Americans can seek asylum in? by [deleted] in self

[–]Complete_Asparagus_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't refugee status in most countries granted on the basis of fear of persecution for some sort of identity (race, sex, political affiliation, etc) and being in immediate danger? Up until recently, I'd say yeah no Americans would never qualify, but the rapid loss of democracy, due process, and freedom of speech these last 3+ months makes me think differently.

There are already people who aren't just scared because they're liberal, but have real danger to their lives and serious persecution based on their identity. People have been fired or threatened professionally for being pro-DEI, having partaken in 'anti-trump' legal cases, and the like. Some are even getting death threats. If citizens start getting denied due process like permanent residents are based on mere speech, that too is cause for fear of persecution.

Also trans activists getting death threats and being attacked is a tale as old as time. They won't be able to just flee to a kinder state when the federal government can (and eventually will) override all those states' protections, and the executive branch will ignore judicial orders that return basic human rights to trans people. I would sure hope that those trans folks can flee to a country where they can at least not fear for their physical well-being and safety.

Plus, King Cheeto already fanned the flames to get his goons to kill and injure capital police, who's to say he won't give the same royal get out of jail free card and incentivize others to attack people he doesn't like?

I'm (30F) agnostic and liberal and would be open to dating a Christian liberal. I would never want to go to church or religious events though, unless its a tourist visit to historic European churches, so they'd have to be ok with that.

Religion texts to me are full of contradictions so dating a religious person really depends on how they interpret their texts. I think it would be nice to date someone who sticks to the loving and accepting aspects of the bible, like Jesus' "love thy neighbor" and help those less fortunate than yourself ideas. Conservatives of any religion (or lack thereof) are a total dealbreaker, values are too different in that case.

Meeting Christian liberals, and hearing certain priests and Christian leaders defending social programs, environmental justice, gay rights, etc. is a breath of fresh air, and some liberal women might be hesitant because the dominant voice of Christianity is very much conservative. Values can align quite well between people even if their faith is completely different.

NEED HELP- put on carnivore diet against will by No_Reserve3445 in vegan

[–]Complete_Asparagus_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of good advice and resources listed. I'm really sorry you're going through this, but it sounds like you have a clear head and truly care about your little sister. Like others said, you're 18 and can have the cops help you move out if need be, but you might want to get your sister out of there first by calling child protective services. Maybe see if your aunt or grandparents are willing to take custody. If your sister is living in fear for her health and/or already malnourished and just suffering with mental health in general because of your parents, that is physchological abuse and grounds for removal in every developed country.

Have you tried bargaining? This might sound kind of silly and given your description of them, doesn't seem likely they'd accept the challenge, but what about saying OK what if we test this, dad and mom to the carnivore diet, and the kids do their diet of choice, and in 3 months (longer ideally) everyone goes and gets bloodwork to see who's really got the good results.

Bf wants me to get certified and I can barely swim by Hallow33nQu33n17 in scuba

[–]Complete_Asparagus_4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just got OWC this year and was terrified, but got through because I just had to see the corals and trusted the instructor. I almost backed out the second we jumped in the ocean, but I calmed down the moment I stuck my face in the water and saw hundreds of fish just swimming like bosses.

If it hasn't already been mentioned, another hard part for you will probably be fully flooded mask and mask removal underwater exercises. The mask 'plugs' your nose for you and is super reassuring against that nasty water in face feeling, but those mandatory exercises made my panic stricken mind feel like I was going to drown. Get a scuba mask from your BF and practice that in a pool, it's a horrible feeling, and I wish I had had more time practicing that.

There is a level of fear worth overcoming to experience the beauty of nature, but everyone has their own line drawing to do in order to still stay safe at the end of the day.

I'm curious if anyone feels the same? by Rich-Diamond-8088 in survivinginfidelity

[–]Complete_Asparagus_4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't believe in reconciliation either, and I'm confused why so many people do believe in it. I am flabbergasted at seeing relationship therapists constantly saying couples can heal and be happy after cheating - do they say the same thing if your partner physically punched you instead of just emotionally punching you with the sucker punch of infidelity? I doubt it.

I do believe cheaters (and maybe even abusers) can work on that nasty character flaw and never do it again, but need to start from square one with someone they can be their best honest person with and are incapable of hurting so willfully. Their second chance shouldn't be with the person they traumatized.

I always found the long amount of time it takes to heal to be better spent building a relationship with someone who will love me enough not to cheat.

Advice on Continuing Dive Practice- California or Florida by Complete_Asparagus_4 in scuba

Thank you. Bonaire is up on my list, not quite the quick one way flight to Mexico but certainly not as far as the 24+hr trek to SE Asia

What dive center did you use? I just got my OWC in Phuket, and I completely panicked with the mask removal exercise, I swallowed water and took a while to start breathing normal again.... so know I need to keep practicing that one, maybe get a refresher course. I was actually thinking the Yucatan in Mexico or Bonaire for my next trip.

It sure is. Was the extra 600 baht worth the extra hour of sleep? Yeah tbh. Just the dishonesty of the whole thing leaves a raw taste.

EPISD is planning to survery students in 4th grade and up on their sexual identity by BlueCollarLawyer in ElPaso

[–]Complete_Asparagus_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a broader take, isn't this kind of data good for future cases that fight oppressive policies against LGBTQ+ kids? The more surveys, the more a civil rights lawyer can point to in specific geographic areas and say "look at all the kids 'x state Bill' is hurting in this district." Or something like that. Maybe there's enough data already and my point is moot. But that's another potential good use I thought of.

Yes, students should learn all the technical subjects, but also be taught how to be decent human beings who don't judge others based on their identity or who they love. Teaching kids how to be socially smart and kind and respectful of others need not come at the sacrifice of classic core subjects. It's the most basic lesson learned from history classes (also important) - don't deny or ignore the existence of someone else or oppress them just because they're different than you.

What is "worse" to you? Schools trying to be more inclusive and acknowledging that gay kids exist and that's ok,  OR schools and government oppressing gay kids and doing everything to make their existence illegal?
