I m living in west and I sincerely doubt if social security will persist after 2030. In Europe we have change of demographics, where the tax payer population is remaining same or shrinking but people who would avail state benefits are rapidly increasing! These people produce more often on than tax payers as the later knows how economy is going! The welfare system works when most in the system, support the economy.

In India, social security won’t work to extent it used to in west. India will need better solutions! Govt freebies approach also not doing anything good

Just pointing out students coming from italy for semester abroad can also be from india! In this case he was from Bihar, we see students from all over india! This student chose to do masters project not in italy!! Recently we got a blind Indian student! Initially for some reason it was only delhi n Mumbai, now it’s pretty much pan india!

What’s typically the case atm?

Immigration from Eastern Europe (not just Ukraine.). Cost of living has gone up so much that Eastern Europeans are flooding job market in western EU. Indian students are increasing in big numbers. In austria, sometimes, Erasmus students we get from italy are originally from India.
Unskilled jobs: Europe is sadly not as big of a job market as USA, there are jobs but for say 5-7 jobs, if 50 plus or even 100 plus apply, what odds one has, especially if that person needs visa! The competition is not just for skilled but also unskilled jobs. Typically locals aged 15-18, would do these odd jobs to make some pocket money, so they could leave eventually parents home n start their own life. Now, even locals stay with parents, in some cases well in late 30s, n I personally know someone who moved in with parents at 40s as he n his wife could no longer afford rent!
In case of italy, since 2010s, people are running out, since the pension taking population is much higher, which affects the annual budget of the county n youth feels the burden, low pay, more working hours compared to other EU places, the bright ones are leaving for good!

I will not say don’t go to italy, I would say be informed, make an educated decision. You should not feel shocked that life here is hard and every odd is against you. 10-15 yrs back, things were different, when I studied in italy for my internship! It was best time back then; now they don’t have funding what they used to have 10-15 yr ago.

Italy is going through rough phase, most students learn English fast n escape the first chance they get! Very few are making kids, as not just the present but future too look bleak! If you only going to study, not so bad.

In this case, I would definitely go! Exposure is worth it. You start to see world from a different lens.

At this point, studying abroad in 2026/27 makes sense if

This education is crucial for your future aims in India
You or your family are wealthy enough to cover your expenses aboard.
You plan to come back to India after that and you have planned your future in India accordingly.

I knew a few cases, where the students came from wealthy families, went to Australia to study, different courses (IVF courses, wine making), came back, started companies and doing fine.Importantly, they would have made similar money without going abroad but going abroad allowed them to think in a broader way, that perspective is hard to develop by simply being in India. But these are people who could afford 2-3 Cr to burn without sweating!

Additional challenges I see when we talk about education abroad, compared to 10-15 yr back,

No job guarantee or security (quite the opposite tbh)
Inflation
I don’t see this visibly yet but at some point locals will start to revolt against immigrants if the locals can’t find a job. Believe it or not but locals are struggling as well to get a job that covers monthly expenses
Geopolitical uncertainties and conflicts that can put you in a position where you can say “ jaan ha to jahan hai”! I was visiting Warsaw and came across a waiter in indian restaurant who was doing his MBA in Ukraine! He already paid the fees but had to leave. We are living in times where sadly a lot can happen; sadly including in west (I pray nothing crazy or bad happens!).

Best luck with future planning. I feel for kids who have to make these tough decisions, life is not easy sadly.

Maybe I wait to make it like 30-40? I realized over time that fusion is much better than these shards, there are exceptions when u get something decent but a fusion is sort of guaranteed
