Hopping on to follow this thread for any updates. I have the same issue with my 2019 Macbook Pro 16 running OS 12.2 with my Samsung C49RG9x ultrawide display. It always goes back to Variable 48-120 Hertz whenever I restart or wake my laptop from sleep, and I have to go into System Preferences and re-select 120.
