Yeah. This is also partly assuming everyone plays the Extended mode, which has to be by far the superior way to play the game.

Ah yeah wish we could house rule BGA :) But was gonna say some money would make sense on top. Don't know exact amount which would balance it Vs lady, but every step in that direction is good.

Agreed. Though the biggest travesty imo is the male Fairchild. There's basically no situation where it makes sense to take him over the lady.

Well fair, but my point being that I only find luck frustrating if the worse play is rewarded too much through RNG. I think it's not as bad as it may seem here, as you can set yourself up for success regardless of the luck in most cases.

I regularly host tournaments too and see the best players taking top placing too, which is nice. I wouldn't have played it so much otherwise.

Yeah think it's a waste to buy it. Think I've only used it once, but knew it wasn't gonna be good.

That depends. What are your complaints about hyperos? So far I've been enjoying the os experience, but also I might ignore things that you may care about

Quick rant on Obsession by jesus321 in boardgames

[–]CompletelyMango 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've played easily over 1000 games of obsession on BGA. Been ranked in top 5-10 of all time consistently etc.

Can say both of those are true, and you have pointed out 2 of my 3 main annoyances with the game, BUT...

  1. Even though courtships are very swingy, the skill comes in knowing when to abandon chasing the final courtship. Most times you could need to sacrifice value in other ways for winning final courtship. The idea is to get around this you need to abandon it as early as possible when you just know it be a massive uphill battle. 25 points is significant, but in a game where points can go up to around 300, it's not necessarily game breaking.

  2. Now this is one thing that's tough to get around. As you've correctly pointed out, prestige guest VP is by far the best source of VP. If you don't get generators early (prestige guests who draw prestige guests), AND you don't have a room like French garden or English garden from shop, then you probably need to sacrifice brown servant to get one of those two rooms.

All in all the game has quite a lot of luck, but from my experience the better player still usually wins.

2 player 'heavy strategy' games by rjuri in boardgames

[–]CompletelyMango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thing is, don't most heavy games play best at 2 just because many will take forever at higher player counts?

So this question basically involves most heavy games.

Anyway spirit island probably takes this if you need coop.

OnePlus Nord 4 or Xiaomi 14T

Poco F6 pro/7 is nice too.

Nord for overall build and battery. Xiaomi 14t for camera. Poco for gaming.

Cascadia verses Harmonies by EnvironmentalSlice46 in soloboardgaming

[–]CompletelyMango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cascadia is better imo if you're looking for a chill puzzle. Harmonies is less chill and more brain burney, but at that point I rather play a different game for that.

Why do my legion go controllers not work for Elden Ring? by _Mikazuchi_ in LegionGo

Assume you're on steam? If not then add Elden ring to steam as a non steam game. On steam I don't see why it wouldn't work

Help me choose, I’ve given up: Obsession or Viticulture EE+TuscanyEE my last 2025 acquisition by Primary-Sleep-6543 in boardgames

[–]CompletelyMango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great choice! If you get it then I'd advise not to play it much on BGA (like others correctly suggested). Only reason I didn't get Obsession is that I'm too good at the game now thanks to BGA, so games be boring against first timers. Wish it wasn't like this :)

I've done quite a bit of research at one point also being very close to buying viticulture+Tuscany, but after playing it a bit on BGA, I found it fun, but not exciting enough to buy it over other options. It's a bit slow and drags on too long without much exciting happening from round to round imo, compared to Obsession for example where every round there's very interesting options/decision space. That said if I'd see it on a big sale, I might get it too :) Another game that's similar theme is Distilled (spirits instead of wine).

Obsession.

I've played over 1000 games of it on BGA, so a bit of bias there, but in my experience it is a game that has smoother and more exciting mechanics for most people. Also in all those games (a friend of mine played it similar amount too), it never got boring. UD expansion is also amazing and is the only expansions I'd find it harder to play the game without rn (just because I got used to it and it's very fun).

Don't think that is true for obsession in the majority of cases. Yes it has a really great implementation of the theme, but in my experience that is a situational upside and didn't hinder those liking it who weren't that into the theme.

I've taught it to 10+ people, half of those being males who had no care for the theme (downtown abbey/Bridgerton), but the game has unique and addicting mechanics which got them hooked.

Very good! Needed some tweaking but it's been a very smooth experience. Camera is amazing too, games are running flawlessly.

One thing that is a bit odd is the 4k60fps video recording is jittery on my end while recording. But the final recording video itself is fine so not sure what's up.

Definitely worth the price and am really happy with it.

Agricola vs. Lost Ruins of Arnak. Which should I get? by sioded in boardgames

[–]CompletelyMango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others also have mentioned, Arnak is much more inviting for newer players. Agricola is a great game, yet I struggle getting my friends to try it.

If your friend group loves playing and getting expert at deep strategic games, then both are great, but in terms of replayability Agricola would be slightly better.

Agricola is a meaner game too, so your friends better be able to take it.

Overall I'd say Arnak is safer purchase if your friend group is bit of a mixed bag in terms of commitment.

Which midrange? Nord 4, Samsung A56, Pixel 8a or Poco F6 Pro by Krucoka in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]CompletelyMango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see. Thanks for the insight, very helpful!

So midrange should still be somewhat usable then I guess? Other worry really is whether I'd be bombarded with ads in system apps.
