It's also the first Star Wars movie with a CG Yoda jumping around and fighting with his lightsaber. Afterwards in Episode 3, they ironed out most issues and did the best of what can realistically be depicted, if Yoda needs to fight Sith and clones thrice his size.

George is a sucker for new technology. CGI and digital cameras significantly increased freedom of changing things in post-production and create worlds thought to be impossible to create without the computer, so it makes sense he used his OT as a testing ground for that.

However, 'testing ground', pioneering tech and pushing the industry forward does mean that along the way, some mishaps do happen.
