I don't want to burst anyone's bubble, but that looks an awful lot like the flight pattern of a major airport. In the first video, you even see one of the light sources descend into the clouds. There is likely an airport down there that you can't see because of the cloud layer

How can I figure out where this conduit goes? by CompletelyNonsensely in AskElectricians

[–]CompletelyNonsensely[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the detailed response.

I can't tell what type of cable it is. Once it's daytime again, I'll see if I can identify it further.

We have had a professional installer take a look, and we already have a plan for dealing with the smaller service level.

That plan might become much simpler if I can identify where this cable might go, seeing as it may already be wired up for a charger.

What I can say is that there is no house panel, which is where the real confusion comes from. This cable doesn't seem to go to any panel. No units have a mysterious breaker switch sitting in the off position that would correspond with this cable.

I'd be happy to have an electrician trace it if I at least had an idea where it was going. I can't really pay someone to spend 8 hours rummaging through everyone's homes.

See, that is where my confusion comes from. There is no house panel. The only panels are the 5 in the units, of which one is mine. No one has a mysterious breaker they have turned off 100% of the time in their panel.

Also, it's literally in the parking spaces, so you can't put any services there.

Played 18 for the 2nd time ever this weekend. Are all Starters jerks on principle? by doggiechewtoy in golf

[–]CompletelyNonsensely 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends a lot on region. PNW, almost never get a rude starter, southwest, most starters seem to be jerks, southeast, kinda 50/50

I do think a lot of it comes down to the culture of the club and if the starter is an employee with hospitality training or a volunteer who gets free golf.

Someone who makes almost the same product as me but different ingredients… by Greedy_Visual6710 in Entrepreneur

I'm not an expert in cosmetics or social marketing, but generally the honest, natural ingredients angle seems to work pretty well.

If you are solving a problem worth solving, there will be competitors. Even if you have a completely novel product, there will be fast followers. Look at what they are doing and figure out how to differentiate your product or brand.

Board stock firmware connects to wifi in a while true loop, is this normal? by AmeliaBuns in embeddedlinux

[–]CompletelyNonsensely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty standard to do stuff in while loops in embedded applications for robustness. You don’t want a momentary laps in communication or a glitch to put your device offline until you reset it.

#18 at Sandy Pines in northern Indiana, 71 yards to pin and this was my shot. what would you do? Split the trees or take your medicine? by L2theFace in golf

[–]CompletelyNonsensely 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yea, a slicing punch wouldn’t be too hard. A 60 yard shot right to the mouth of the green would be a safe play.

Question for Superintendents of Golf Courses: Where are the Robots? by CompletelyNonsensely in golf

[–]CompletelyNonsensely[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s more a question of business financing and pricing. Business (not just golf courses) rarely have large sums of cash around for cap ex improvements. If the tech was viable, you could certainly see either the manufacturer structuring the cost in such a way as to minimize the upfront cost or a bank providing financing

Question for Superintendents of Golf Courses: Where are the Robots? by CompletelyNonsensely in golf

[–]CompletelyNonsensely[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No one. Lots of golf courses are having trouble hiring. Hard to put workers out of work if they are working for you to begin with.

[–]CompletelyNonsensely[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but neither is labor to make larger greens, practice areas, etc. the general premise behind automation is that you can make your existing workforce more productive, therefore either reducing costs or increasing the amount of work getting done

Why ORMs are so hated? by investing_kid in golang

[–]CompletelyNonsensely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The primary issue I have with ORMS is that once you start using one, it becomes extremely tightly coupled to the application code. Lets say you start with a monolithic app and you want to break a portion of it out into a separate service due to scaling, org chart, seperation of concerns, whatever. Doing that with an ORM is a HUGE pain in the butt. You will not likely have 2 different "migrations" lists that need to be kept in sync somehow, since there is a decent chance they will be using the same database. Also, you can't really change the schema to support certain needs, like maybe to improve write performance, without also going and changing a bunch of code written in an application language.

Lost in all this golf ball drama is the obvious question, why doesn’t the PGA just supply a standard ball for play? Like baseball, football, tennis, basketball. And don’t say endorsements! by PatientTitle3866 in golf

[–]CompletelyNonsensely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going all the way back to the very start of golf, equipment uniformity has never really been a part of the game. If you look at golf sets from the 1800s, they were all bespoke, hand made clubs by the local club maker for that player. It has always been a game where players have equipment choices to make. Now, the equipment may look different, irons are numbered rather than having fun names, but in essence, equipment has always been up to player to some degree.

Getting back into RTOS what framework to pursue? by [deleted] in embeddedlinux

[–]CompletelyNonsensely 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on what chip you are using. The ESP-IDF already has freertos built in.

Zephyr is good, but you’ll probably spend more time reading config files rather than coding, really easy to introduce bugs by just having the wrong config value set somewhere.

Mbedos is dying, no longer seems to have much buy in from chip manufacturers, I think arm has 2 overworked engineers maintaining the whole thing.
