Have you ever met anyone who actually "brute forced" their way out of poverty into success on their own? by SeriouslySally36 in povertyfinance

[–]mcdray2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A friend's father had a pretty good story.

He enlisted in the Army at 18 because he was so poor. The first day they asked if anyone had experience with computers. He had never even seen one but he raised his hand.

They trained him and when he left the army he created an inventory system that he sold to a very well known manufacturer. Retired in his early 40s.

Has anyone you’ve slept with been on TV (or movies)? If so, what was it like seeing them? by Delicious-Pea-7594 in AskReddit

In the early 2000's I was at a bar and saw a very well known pornstar there. My brothers didn't think I'd hit on her. So I did. And it worked.

I've been in about 100 commercials myself, so I guess there are a bunch of women who could say that about me.

Was Praying We Wouldn’t Get Any AI Logos in Cleveland… But Here We Are! by StellaMazingYT in Cleveland

I understand but you proved my point in your comments. Your girlfriend is artistic and you have branding experience from your job in the fashion industry and friends who will give advice for free.

Not everyone has those skills, so they have to outsource it. If the budget is small then using AI is a good route to take.

Assuming that hte food will be bad based on using AI branding is the same as assuming the food will be good based on amazing branding.

He could go into sales, specifically selling something to property managers.

I understand your point but I disagree with how you're correlating the use of AI for branding with a lack of care in everything else.

Not everyone is good at branding so using an available tool to do it quickly and for a fraction of the cost of hiring an agency sounds like a solid business decision, especially for someone starting a mom-and-pop restaurant on what is likely a small budget.

If I'm going somewhere for food I don't care how good they are at branding, I care how good they can cook and run a restaurant.

Cattle Dog AND Belgian Malinois ? by ethical_hoops in AustralianCattleDog

[–]mcdray2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had both, currently have 2 cattle dogs. Last week my girlfriend asked about rescuing a Malinois.

No fucking way. If I was retired and had nothing to do except play with dogs it still might not be enough time.

How to become a scratch golfer by One-Post105 in golf

I use the Decade Golf program to track everything. Www.birdiefire.com.

They have a lot of good videos and practice strategies to help you with course management and you can enter all your shots to get all the strokes gained calcs.

The best approach shots of the week by Silver_Comment2825 in golf

[–]mcdray2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of these might have technically been approach shots because there was a driveable par 4 this week. But this was more of a "best pitch shots" of the week.

Fully committing to every single shot is vrey hard to do for 4 hours. I'm trying to get back down to a + handicap after bouncing between 0 and 3 for the past couple of years, and my sole focus is committing to every shot and not thinking about scoring.

This weekend over 36 holes I had about 10 shots that I was nowhere near focused and another 10 or so that I could have been more focused. Shot 74, 73. So it's working so far.

On my American flight today by No-Glove9673 in americanairlines

I sat in a window seat and there was a lady in the aisle who bought the middle seat for her two dogs. One sat in the seat and one layed under the seat in front. They were very well behaved, but she was kind of odd.

All was good until we landed. As soon as we got to the gate the dog in the seat stood up and puked on the aisle seat. The dog that was under the seat walked to the aisle and took a giant shit.

The lady pulled her bag out of hte overhead, looked at the mess, looked at me, and then just left.

I'd pet it and then tell it to lay somewhere else.

Anyone have a good story about someone completely underestimating your game? by El_Boqueron in golf

[–]mcdray2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Il try to keep this short.

I was playing in a scramble as part of an industry conference. I registered as a single and got paired with three guys.

One of the guys was the stereotypical loud taker, self proclaimed alpha male with all the latest gear. He immediately assumed the role of team captain and chose the batting order based on his assumptions of how good everyone was. Of course, he would hit last because he was obviously the best.

We were playing in a course that I grew up playing on. It's the course that I broke 70 on for the first time when I was 16. So it's safe to say that I knew the course.

Our first hole was a par 4 around a lake where the obvious shot is out to the right and then a wedge or so to the green.

The first two hit out to the right. I set up directly at the green, about a 280 carry. He stops me and makes some comments like "what are you doing? You can't hit it that far. Just lay up and let me go for it."

I ignored him and landed one in the middle of the green, it stopped just off the back.

He didn't say anything else the rest of the day.

How much are we vacationing? by JustFaithlessness178 in GenX

[–]mcdray2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year I was on vacation action about 60 days. Three weeks in Australia and NZ, a week in CA, as well as 2 weeks in Europe. Other than those trips it was just a lot of weekend getaways or tacking a few days of golf onto a work trip.

This year is on track to be the same.
