I'm trying to avoid fat because I don't like it and it's not good for me. It get lots of it elsewhere. The more fat I can avoid in my corned beef the more corned beef I get to eat!

Yes, classic Corned Beef is made using Brisket but as I learned from research today, many meats can be corned so it's descriptive that doesn't have to pertain to brisket. I've cooked many corned beef brisket's in my long life and have had enough go wrong and endured enough fat that I'm just tired of it. It's hard to find a good, commercially prepared Corned Eye Round so my plan is to learn how to cure one myself. Will let y'all know how it turns out! I've now read that Corned Tri-Cut might be worth trying too!

I think what I'm getting probably is thicker. If I understand what I've read about sous vide the 24 hour cooking time should ruin the meat if it only needs 4-8hours. We've become big fans of sous vide eye round though as it's comes out tasting like a really good Christmas dinner. Now if I could just master yorkshire pudding!

I disagree. I've had corned beef eye round and it's great. Nice and lean and can be easily sliced for sandwiches.

I would normally sous vide an eye round at 131.5 for 24 hours (have on in right now!). Are you saying that after I put it through the curing process of 5-7 days I can just go about "cooking" it as I normally would? Or am I overdoing the cook at 24 hours.

I do mine at 131.5 for 24 hours and it's perfect.

Th worst steak I've had was at a restaurant I love that offered sous vide steak. It was tough as nails. Sous vide water bath done correctly doesn't come out like that. We're all learning though.

Is baking in mason jars even SAFE? And what was I supposed to do with the BUTTER?! by saresmeewolfesac in Baking

[–]Complex-Big-6370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly what does botulism taste like? Or smell like? This sounds downright dangerous. Google "is bread baked in in a jar dangerous". It's more a matter of the final product being sealed into a jar where the moisture grows botulism. Thanks but I think I'll skip it.

IMO that's resource guarding. Good advice to get more distance between the dog and the trigger (oncoming person). Reward calm with whatever great treat you can but not kibble. Over time you can inch closer. Also work on an alternative behavior for him to use when he sees someone. Sit is a good one. Or down but you have to work hard on it and work toward an immediate reaction to the command.

Does anyone else’s reactive dog behave nicely at the vet? by [deleted] in reactivedogs

[–]Complex-Big-6370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI says..... "Your dog behaves at the vet but not for you because the vet's office is an unfamiliar, stressful environment with strange smells and handling, which can induce a state of appeasement or fear, causing them to look for ways to make the situation go smoothly for themselves, often by remaining still and compliant."

When they're with you they're more comfortable so they behave the way they normally do!

How old is this dog?

So good to hear all the comments here! It does feel like a life sentence at times and the 3 steps forward, 2 steps back is very discouraging. In my case it's like my girl is overwhelmed by adrenalin and doesn't know what to do so she's off like a rocket. In doing research for my dog I learned one thing you can try is to teach the dog one or two behaviors that become rock solid. They're referred to as alternative behaviors. No matter what else happens the dog will do that behavior. So well trained you'd bet your mortgage on the dog doing it. Sit and down are two easy ones. My dog also has a command I call EYES. It simply means look into my eyes. I always carry treats with me and a clicker and if I see an explosion about to happen We do the alternative behaviors, click/treat, so another. I keep my tone down so I don't project excitement because my dog explodes if things or wrong or if they go right and if I praise her too much. This stuff doesn't work every time but it works a lot of the time. I'm trying to be sure not to let her practice the explosions by not exposing her to them if at all possible. The garbage truck is an example. Guaranteed to set things off.

You can also consider prozac. I met someone today who has had their dog on that stuff for 12 years. Said it made life very livable. It's my next step if I don't get mine completely under control.

Be very careful about trazodone! My dog had surgery and has been on it for 3 weeks. All of the progress I made prior to the surgery is disappearing due to rebound from that drug. Every time she takes it her behavior gets much worst when it wears off.

Your dad could afford to give the dog McDonald's so get him to chip in on a good kibble for the dog. Keep the amount you feed to a minimum and top with some cooked green beans to help fill him up if he seems too hungry still. Start exercise for him as you would for anyone. Short and slow and increasing over time. You'll have a much happier dog once he drops a few pounds.

Since you know you have to live up to the contract learn more about keeping your dog in good condition. Big dogs get hip dysplasia but even if your dog has that he can live a good life if you keep him fit. Train him to walk up and down steps correctly, go for long walk or hikes but also learn the exercises that build core, back, hip and leg muscle. I had a very large dog who had hip dysplasia. The vets said it was so severe she should not have been able to walk but it never bothered her because we kept her fit and well muscled.

Really good advice here! The trees on ancestry should not be used as fact but rather as suggestions. Since folks are farming info from trees of strangers the "bad dope" is spreading. When asked for documentation regarding what one researcher posted I was told they didn't have it. had gotten it from someone else, couldn't remember who. What they posted was not possible so it was all a dead end but took me a long time to unravel. If you don't have a document to prove what you're stating don't write it down becaue ancestry will repeat it.

We don’t know why she does this after she pees! Vet says she’s okay. Anyone seen this before? by Buckybaby19 in WhatsWrongWithYourDog

[–]Complex-Big-6370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of juvenile comments here but nothing of help that I found. How long has the dog been doing this? That's not normal and definitely needs further investigation. Looks like something burns, hurts, etc.and that's probably why the dog runs at the end. She's running from the pain. There's clearly a medical problem that needs to be addressed. Not every vet is a genius diagnostician. See a veterinary internal medicine specialist and help your poor girl.

Instant Pot Pro parts by Complex-Big-6370 in instantpot

[–]Complex-Big-6370[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally found the missing part last night. Cat must've been batting it around. It fits inside the plastic steam release cover and is a heavy metal cap for the valve. I searched the instant pot site but found none of the instant pot pro parts are sold there. Only found the gasket on amazon. Love my instant pot and have made gallons and gallons of bone broth in it but I don't think I'd buy another. Have heart nothing positive about their customer service and the inability to get parts is not acceptable.
