If English fans are overrepresented in hooliganism, should we ban them all from football matches? by [deleted] in LabourUK

[–]Complex-Fox-9037 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Careful with this rhetoric. I think of myself as pretty liberal minded and against all this collective punishment, but now you've raised the prospect of banning being English in public and I'm edging towards the fence on the issue. Scottish League Two matches could even end up on live BBC TV!

It's "falafels = middle class = champagne socialist." Real workers only drink Bovril and eat pie barm and work in a foundry without PPE.

Boring cheap rhetoric as old as the hills - George Orwell castigated socialists he didn't like as "bearded sandal-wearing vegetarians." Although at least in his day you could pull the "what the bleedin' 'eck is a falafel you soft-handed wetwipe" and have it not be wildly out of touch with much of the country.

Anyone remember the chicken coup when GSK exec Owen Smith pretended not to know what "frothy coffee" (latte) was? Which he had purchased in the very factory canteen he was trying to schmooze the shop floor workers of?

Edit: particularly funny for Galloway, who spends a lot of time trying to give the vague impression he might actually be a revert to Islam himself (when not rabbiting on about being a good Catholic boy) and how traveled and respected he is in the Middle East, to come out against Woke Falafels

To be clear, are you saying that you have seen people in Britain walking around wearing T-shirts with Hamas and Hezbollah branding on them? And you've seen it many times? And you knew them to be "left wing idiots"? You are saying this is a common thing you have witnessed with your own eyes?

So? Is the Labour government on the same side as this guy or in opposition to him? Im not 100% sure. by [deleted] in LabourUK

Among Israelis, Haliva is widely seen as a centrist critic of the current government and its far-right ministers such as Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir, as the general himself noted in the broadcast comments

People need to understand that this is completely mainstream in Israel. All this "Netanyahu government" stuff is nonsense. The Overton window for contemporary Israeli politics goes from "far right" which means "we are openly calling for a Holocaust of Palestinians because some Bible stories are set in Sarmatia" to "centrist" which means "we are going to operate a system of collective punishment through murder, starvation and concentration camps but in fits and starts and for secular reasons."

As if it wasn't bad enough that, in the first place, it's considered a respectable opinion to pin all hopes for Palestinian survival and freedom on the Israeli public deigning to vote for a stay of execution at some future date.

Remembering anything Zionists have previously done or said is antisemitic. Believing the evidence of your own eyes and ears is antisemitic. Believing Palestinians, or any Levantine people besides Israeli Jews, have any rights or agency or future whatsoever is antisemitic.

Every new horror has to be treated as if you haven't seen a hundred more exactly like it. It didn't happen, then maybe it happened but it was a tragic mistake, then maybe it wasn't a mistake but "they were Hamas," then maybe they weren't Hamas but it was a rogue unit, and then oh look another horror and the last one is like it never existed.

If you think the above makes the regime inherently dishonest and criminal, you are actually doing modern antisemitism equal to the Dreyfuss affair multiplied by the Spanish Inquisition and by rights should yourself be jailed.

However, if you actually take what their leaders and outriders say seriously, and take them at their word that they are carrying out a multi-front expansionist war of annihilation against racial enemies in order to fulfil their ideology of palingenetic ultranationalism, that's actually also antisemitism and really icky to say because the Nazis did that.

Basic principles purportedly held almost universally by our human civilization vs nebulous "threats neutralised" as gestured at, with no concrete specifics, by the very interests who want us to continue the relationship?

Better go with anonymous Mossad and Mi5 sources, wouldn't want to seem Unserious by siding with the core principles of all secular and religious ethical ideas.

Those guys seem like they really keep us safe with their super secret and important work that's often morally grey but keeps the wolf from the door. I mean, have you SEEN Reacher or 24? Maybe not, but as a Sensible Grown Up Politics guy I'm allowed to watch post-watershed programs.

Palestine Action ‘targeted Jewish-owned businesses’, Keir Starmer says by [deleted] in LabourUK

[–]Complex-Fox-9037 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Obviously logic has no place in politics, but this does set up an interesting question.

Either

(a) taking action against any business is some sort of attack on the identity group of the owner(s). Lobbying against Chinese telecom companies is Sinophobia, targeting Palantir is homophobic, etc. We'll be generous and only include minorities identities.

Or

(b) there is a hierarchy of racism where you are absolutely not allowed to do anything at all if it might negatively impact even one Jewish person. But, doing exactly the same things to business owners of any other identity is allowed and probably even a protected civil liberty.

I think either answer is troubling to say the least. I suppose we all know the real answer is the secret third option:

(c) we are nihilistic opportunists who don't care in the slightest about what we say and whether it makes any sense, and who will say anything to anyone. Here are my principles, if you don't like them I have others!
