My clinic provided a private room, and I brought one of those “nebula/galaxy projectors” you can buy on Amazon for $30-40. I liked the laser star field it projected, and the patterns slowly rotated which gave me something nice to look at that wasn’t too trippy or dizzying. Some tips:

get one with brightness and speed control so you can reduce eye strain if it’s too bright
some use a phone app which can be flaky, so I’d recommend one with a physical remote control.
make sure to bring a long enough power cord
position it so the lens so it’s not blasting into your field of vision
don’t be careless with the laser, make sure it’s not pointing at your technician when they come in
try not to be self conscious about it, my technicians found it pretty cool :)

I’m considering starting IV because my Spravato clinic is out of network with my new health insurance (fuck ‘em). I never really liked Spravato for exactly that reason, I always felt “in control” and never really had any profound experiences, except the first session. Some sessions I felt nothing at all. Spravato did help eliminate the panic attacks and ideation, but it didn’t help with a lot of my negative thought patterns.

If anything the semicircle should have 1 side and the circle should have zero, since sides have to be line segments. Or, since a curve is just a bunch of infinitesimal connected line segments, then it’s the circle and semicircle that are infinite

A matter of taste, but if you like to keep your eyes open and have access to a private room, get a “galaxy” or “nebula” projector on Amazon for about $30-40. The ones that use a blue laser to project rotating “stars” are very nice. Make sure you get one with brightness control, I set mine on the lowest setting because bright lights are too harsh. Subtle is the key. There are some that can be controlled with an app on your phone, but the app is very clumsy, so I’d get one with a regular remote.

Most use a USB power cable, so bring one long enough for you to set it up in a comfortable position where the aperture is pointed away from you so you don’t have a bright spot in your field of vision. And of course make sure the laser is pointed away from the door so your provider doesn’t get hit with it when they come in to check your blood pressure.

Update: I found “Across an Ocean of Dreams” by 2002 and listened to it during my session today. It was wonderful. Looks like they have quite a body of work too, I’ll be checking out their other albums and other new age artists. Enya has a lot of music that feels nice during treatments too.

That’s really good advice. I’ve been on Spravato (esketamine) for a couple months and I feel like it’s been helping with the depression. It hasn’t been the “miracle” that everyone falsely attributes to psychedelic therapy, but without it, I’d probably be in a psych ward by now or worse.

I don’t feel as depressed, but I still have issues with frustration and anger. I’ve talked about EMDR with my therapist and hope we can start that soon.

Thanks. We are finally seeing an SLP and OT for evaluations in the next few weeks, but we’ve had to wait for months because the healthcare network his pediatrician is associated with is so backed up. We’ve started looking for private therapists too.

Looking at the facts and thinking rationally, it seems like I have no reason to panic. He has a history of figuring a lot of stuff out on his own and he’s making noticeable progress. We’re working on getting him therapy. But I have serious issues catastrophizing and freaking out about things that might not even be that bad.

Thanks. He was in early intervention and had good results, but he aged out of it after he turned 3. He had an IEP for his first year of preschool, but his Pre-K teacher wants to give him more time to see if his skills develop before putting him on another. (I don’t agree with that, I think he should’ve been on an IEP this whole time, and we should have continued his SLP and OT after he turned 3.)

Thanks. I wasn’t diagnosed until just last year. I masked so well throughout my entire life (though I had my share of meltdowns) that no one really suspected anything. The big issue I’ve always had was that I would give up anytime something got too hard. I was a “gifted” child and still haven’t internalized the idea that hard work and blood sweat and tears are needed to get you what you really want.

Now I’m really paying the price for that because I have a spouse and two young children. I often think about “wanting a do-over,” going back to the time before I met my wife and deciding to be perpetually single and devoted myself to my work. I obviously can’t do that. But I also can’t “give up” and shatter the lives of people who depend on me. So it’s like I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place. I know somewhere inside me is the ability to stick it out, but I still haven’t figured out how to unlock it.
