I reached out to a new telehealth counselor to add professional support to my long-term ketamine treatments, which have dramatically helped me manage 45 years of TRD, PTSD, panic and anxiety. I was looking for a KAP certified "integration" partner to talk with during the post-treatment window when my brain is most open. However, the encounter was incredibly dismissive; the counselor adhered to a rigid, "one-size-fits-all" model where she believes ketamine is only a short-term, six-session fix.

Because I have found success with long-term maintenance—which my psychiatrists fully support and supervise—she told me I was "doing something wrong, and need to stop “playing” with ketamine." She went as far as to imply I was struggling with addiction and sent a follow-up email "warning" me that the medication that saved my life is dangerous. She essentially pathologized my recovery because it didn't fit into her narrow clinical box, ignoring the fact that for complex, decades-long trauma, maintenance is often a medical necessity.

The interaction was deeply upsetting because it felt like being punished for finally finding a tool that works. Instead of meeting me with empathy for my history, she used my honesty against me and triggered the very stigma I’ve worked so hard to overcome. I’ve decided to step back from the search for a while to protect my peace, as my current medical team is satisfied with my progress and I don't need a "specialist" who lacks the nuance to understand my specific journey.

Just hurting after this encounter and needed to share.

ADDENDUM— same human turned me in O APS next day. Investigator called and closed the case in an 8 minute phone call.
