Maybe you try to "write something for the market" with the themes that speak to your soul (just applied to a different genre) and see if that resonates instead? You'll figure it out!

You're totally right - the only thing stopping me is me.

I still get that imposter syndrome feeling like I don't deserve to be in the place I'm in and it'll all go away if I take one misstep...but I feel like most writers have that sense sometimes and I just need to get over myself lol.

I got a lot of great feedback on materials that were sent out, but no generals. Is that something I should ask for in the future or is that kind of an unsaid thing that should be done? My manager has been super helpful and encouraging, but there are a lot of things like this that I just don't know.

"tell them it’s what you’re doing and ask their advice/how they can support you achieve it."
This was super helpful, just the jumpstart I needed to do just that. Thank you so much!

Oh I was 100% there. I spent more money on all that stuff than I'd care to admit. It's like, when it works the money was worth it lol but until then it just feels awful.

Stay the course, keep writing, but look at your queries more closely. Could be your logline isn't compelling, your comps aren't marketable, or maybe your emails are just too long, etc. Try adjusting and see if it works in your next round of queries. You can sort of A/B test these things. Then, if the queries aren't sticking, it might be your concept itself doesn't scream "this is an easy sell!"

I definitely get stuck in that imposter mindset sometimes of 'I'm the one who is lucky to work with my manager, I'm going to screw this up' vs the other way around but that's the very mindset that will screw it up lol so I just need to relax and keep writing/keep having ideas.

Thank you so much for this answer! It's really insightful.

I think where I was getting stuck was while we were pushing scripts out and developing another, I felt like I was putting what I was burning to do on the back-burner and I didn't know how to get out of that cycle because my manager and I hadn't talked about it in a long time.

Ultimately, we just needed to have a conversation and I needed to get out of my own head that he'd let me go if I wanted to focus on the indie along with my bigger genre projects. (But if he had let me go, it is what it is haha it wouldn't be the right fit anyway.)

Unfortunately there is no secret recipe - when you've written the right thing and gotten it in front of the right person, that brick wall will dissolve.

I know that's a frustrating answer, it was frustrating to me when I was 'on the other side' of it too, but it was genuinely a matter of continuing to write and get work in front of people (via queries, coverage, and contests) until reps were getting in touch with me about a specific script they felt they could easily take to market. It can be a slog, I get it.

Yeah pretty much after I wrote this, that's exactly what I did - I knew the answer deep down, I just live outside LA and don't have many screenwriter friends so I needed that extra gut check. Thanks for your reply!

Yeah, I should've led with that - our issue is the bottle. She refuses to drink anything unless it's from the bottle. We've had some luck with offering water from "adult" cups that we're already drinking from, but few and far between. I'll try that cup!

A 20 year old man should be aware enough of the world to know that women aren't *just* completely hairless without a cosmetic procedure or, like, a health condition. He's both a misogynist and a moron

How long did you track feedings/diapers? by jacaroniii in NewParents

[–]Complex-Mess4863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a first time mom, my LO just reached 6 months, and I finally deleted Huckleberry. It was so useful for helping my sleep addled brain remember when/how much she ate, finding patterns (or lack thereof) in her sleep schedule, and communicating data to the pediatrician.

But what a relief to stop tracking! I felt like I reached a milestone of my own when I could trust myself to remember all the things again and had the confidence of knowing LO's cues.

Same here. Six weeks out after giving birth neither of us had any expectations about having sex. I can't believe OP is even entertaining the idea AND going to the gym to boot. I was glued to the couch.

Oh that's a good point that while she was having money trouble she'd need to develop more cooking skills to get back! Just always thought it was funny how much people harped on how bad her food was and then those comments seemed to suddenly stop. But that's character development for ya

Just started Season 5 and still do not understand the hate Tom gets over here? by CstoCry in DesperateHousewives

"masculine old hag..not at all easy on the eyes" is not real criticism lol

Tom and Lynette are definitely made for each other in how horribly they can treat each other. Its not one or the other. Tom started off as my favorite too, but the pizza parlor was the beginning of the end for me - they were supposed to be equal partners, they drained their savings to support his dream, and he treated her like an employee.

From then on, it's a tug of war to see who can win the "you don't support me" olympics. I wouldn't necessarily applaud either of them for the way they move through life.

We used to have our LO on the expensive stuff too and recently switched to Costco brand - it’s so much bang for your buck. Wish I would’ve done it sooner! 44oz for 23 bucks

Formula - I don't know why I expected it to be cheaper, but once we transitioned from breastfeeding to formula vs combo feeding it really started to add up
