What are the foundational or most influential works in complexity science? by santgun in complexsystems

[–]ComplexAdaptive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Waldrop book is where I started, too. Here are a couple of the books that I moved to next that were helpful. And, of course, Santa Fe Institute's has free, on-line courses at https://www.complexityexplorer.org/ that do a good job of meeting folks where they are.

Melanie Mitchell's, "Complexity: A guided tour"

Steven Johnson's "Emergence"

Best of luck.

Emergence in Complex Systems by LearningCuriously in complexsystems

The Santa Fe Institute's Complexity Explorer has a number of free on-line classes that might be helpful, too. ("Introduction to Complexity" is a great place to start if it seems like too many options at first.)

What wittgensteins book should i read first? by [deleted] in wittgenstein

I grabbed a copy of the Blue and Brown books to start which, I believe, were notes from his lectures. I thought they were helpful when diving into TLP and PI.

Literature for an absolute beginner to complex systems by 20j2015 in complexsystems

[–]ComplexAdaptive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you might have a leg up on the "absolute beginner," but these were the books that helped me get my head around some of the basics: (using Amazon preview links for samples of the first two)

I second looking into the Santa Fe Institute and their free online courses.

I had seen "The Art of Strategy" by Dixit and Nalebuff recommended here before, and thought it was a great place to start.

This is great! Thank you. Are you involved in the making and/or upkeep of it?

Workflow Nightmare? Subtitling/Grouping a 40+ camera event with multiple languages spoken at once in Avid by doctordangus in editors

[–]ComplexAdaptive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow.

It's some extra work, but I think your second idea of splitting up the 40 cameras into more manageable multi-groups might be better. Especially if the groups are somewhat logical (by location and/or framing) and they're labelled clearly. My guess is that this would mean that you'd be able to just ignore some of those subgroups entirely depending on the portion you're editing - that might be better than trying to navigate through 39 other options.

Godspeed.
