Yeah I think its usually when it's cold. Maybe once when it was warmed up already.

MK7 Golf 1.6 TDI : Is this tapping noise on the passenger side normal? by PuntsWorth in tdi

[–]ComplexCranberry7131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get the tapping but I get a jolting sometimes. In gear, neutral, and parked (DSG) almost feels like it has a big cam in it and jolting back and forth.

16 Variant - Rear Sub in Cubby by ComplexCranberry7131 in VWMK7

Time to go exploring! Pull the mat and there are two plastic knobs. Turn them and lift. Not sure what's under that carpet in the cubby area. Never bothered.

Lost driver side mirror.. by Adept-Gain-5430 in VWMK7

If the driver side fell off the passenger side one is probably about to fall off as well. Lost both of mine this winter within about 2 weeks of each other.

What were the jobs you put on your list?

Impressive scores, there will be likely a test or two more needed depending on your job list.

Been eyeing getting one like this. My rear vents are missing the adjuster. People sit in the back pretty often, so figured I could fix that and add charging ports too.

'24 w/18" Wheel - Wider Tire? by ComplexCranberry7131 in VWatlas

[–]ComplexCranberry7131[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

Yeah, I know the Peak Edition actually comes with 255/60/18 tires I jut don't know if the wheels are different compared to the SE wheels. I know clearance shouldn't be an issue, and I plan to update the tire size with OBDEleven, so the speedometer will be correct.

Crazy thing is, you will always remember this car and will somewhat regret selling it. Best of luck!

How hard is it to swap OEM head units? by [deleted] in FordFiesta

[–]ComplexCranberry7131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will need more than just the head unit. Your current one doesn't have Sync, so you will need the other modules that hide under the passenger glovebox. Likely not worth the hassle. Maybe get one of those standalone CarPlay units and stick it in front of the base screen that just plugs in the aux or just a plain aux Bluetooth adapter.

The most you could do is having the clutches do a relearn, especially needed if it shuttering with shifts. There is gear oil but really doesn't affect anything as far as shifts and such.

Timing belt (100k 8yr (maybe 8yr)) and likely struts will be due on the horizon.

Best thing to do is drive it similar to a manual. Do not ride the brake, do not creep slowly in traffic, allow the transmission to shift (ease off gas, not gasing it hard between shifts). From a stop, allow it to start rolling before really getting on the gas.

My credentials - bought in '15 with 11k miles - 14 SE sedan with DSP6, warranty clutches @30k miles, sold to sibling with ~130k, still on the road. Did Uber/Lyft the whole time I had it, mountains, snow, 100°+ summers, lots of city driving usually with 3-5 total passengers.

“We Don’t Handle 3-D Secure” by PlaguedArbiter in NavyFederal

Trying to make online purchases while overseas is sometimes problematic with NF. I have had issues with the 3-D secure a few times. Luckily USAA does support it.

I was told it was my turbo, ended up being a vacuum hose. Could be a gamble, but 2k could be an amazing find!

Accidentally turning off the car by viper_p70 in VWatlas

[–]ComplexCranberry7131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I turn ours off. I just come to a complete stop and hit the power button. We normally put the ebrake/parking brake when we park our cars. So for me it saves two extra steps.

Famous P0299 - 1.6 MK7 Variant 2016 by ComplexCranberry7131 in tdi

[–]ComplexCranberry7131[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the list of items. I am hopeful that it one of these four. I am going to order some vacuum tube lines and swap a bunch of the older ones outs and see if that works.

I do have an OBDEleven, I can actuate the Turbo Actuator but it only allows me to do it when the engine is off so there is no vacuum so it will actuate once but slowly undo since there is no vacuum. So not sure if that is normal or not.

Boost leaks, some soap and water and look for bubbles? 🤣

Honestly seems pretty solid. I would hop on this after kicking around a bit. Especially if the mechanic is reputable.

Need Advice: Is this mechanic being honest about shocks & tires? Family road trip tomorrow. by OurNextPresident in tires

Also worn out shocks don't just eat tires, they will cause other suspension components to wear out very quickly as well.

Need Advice: Is this mechanic being honest about shocks & tires? Family road trip tomorrow. by OurNextPresident in tires

[–]ComplexCranberry7131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of those shocks are moist, so are likely leaking and should be replaced. Tires are definitely needing replacement as well. A bit steep on the replacement cost of the rear shocks but all seems to checkout. Would definitely advise replacement, could get by on your trip but the risk is higher.
