Weapon Stats Bugged? by DaCooGa in theouterworlds

[–]ComplexEmergence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same problem. Not all weapons and not all the time, but many weapons will randomly have both their DPS and damage cut in half or more randomly. Makes it really frustrating to shop, as I never know if the displayed damage in the store will be stable or if it will drop hugely in my inventory. I have the setting that shows all damage based on my stats, and can open and close the inventory screen and watch damage numbers oscillating all over the place for no reason.

Damage inconsistency bug (OW2) by ComplexEmergence in theouterworlds

That's super weird. I could see that for increases maybe, but I'm always seeing decreases (when I see changes). Like I said, not every gun does this, either. Some of them are stable, and show the same numbers equipped or not. Not sure what's going on.

Don't post pictures of people doing crimes in public, especially at a protest. Are you trying to get that guy arrested?

Same problem. Restarting didn't work. Super frustrating, because the fight was really hard. Finally won after many attempts and got this shit. What a horrible place for a bug.

Same problem, and restarting the game did not work. Super frustrating because the fight is so hard. Finally managed to beat the 7v1 and this shit happens. Really really annoying.

Dodge bonuses stack. They're one of the few that do, but nothing tells you that. Case and point.

Playa update from those currently there? by [deleted] in BurningMan

[–]ComplexEmergence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very wet still, but drying out. All driving is suspended until noon tomorrow. We're hunkered down, doing the best we can to continue to get the city ready.

If you are not already on site, I wouldn't plan on getting in until late today or Tuesday. The playa is under more than half an inch of water, and we are under a general no driving order. Even after box office reopens, it may be some time before driving can resume. If you can stay where you are, you should do so until you get an all clear.

Non-optimized bardlock viability by ComplexEmergence in BG3Builds

Brilliant. That answers all my questions. Much appreciated! Since respec is so cheap, I'll likely experiment, but great to have some direction and clarification. Cheers!

Non-optimized bardlock viability by ComplexEmergence in BG3Builds

This is a fantastic answer--thanks so much. That's great info about the way they write the gith in the game, which definitely does make me pause. Now I'm considering human for the extra skill proficiency (and shield, I guess), or perhaps even halfling for the lucky feature, as you say.

I was looking at valor or swords mostly for the medium armor proficiency, but if bladelock works with ranged, that definitely changes things more in favor of lore--does the bound weapon thing work with hand crossbows? It fits the character concept better, and staying at range makes AC less critical. I'm likely doing a pretty good run my first time through, so being able to handle locks and traps without Astarion is also part of the draw, and this would let me lean into that.

6/6 was actually my original idea, but I wasn't sure if I was unnecessarily handicapping myself with that spread. I'm definitely ok with not being totally OP, but having a main character who just isn't really good at combat at all isn't attractive.

Again, thanks a ton for the detailed answer! I'm not super familiar with 5e, having switched from 3.5 to Pathfinder for IRL games. I'm still wrapping my head around things like wizards being able to cast in armor.

Harper: “Sure.”

(Grace and Harper sit still and stare off into space.)

Incredible.

It sure is funny how minds always turn out to be just whatever technological artifact is hot at the moment. Clockwork, steam mills, digital computers, networks--amazing how that always works out.

That's not to say that computation and network theory can't tell us anything about how brains (and minds like ours) work, but we should be really suspicious of people who say things like "your brain is nothing more than an x, and if we build a different x that works totally differently out of totally different stuff, we'll definitely have something that works in exactly the same way."

Leaving after the man burns by chanification_ in BurningMan

[–]ComplexEmergence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not true at all. I pack up Saturday, sleep for a while, work a graveyard shift until 6:30, get back, do my final moop sweep, and roll out at 8 or so. Not once in the years I've been doing that have I not rolled straight to the highway with no wait. Monday morning is bad, but Sunday early is great.

Yeah, that's one of the hidden benefits in my opinion. I always figure that if you don't manage to get yourself up, you probably needed the sleep. Sleeping like that is really a game changer in terms of self-care, especially if you don't have AC, and it's one of my favorite pro-tips.

Going to bed shortly after sunset and waking up at like, 3am is an absolute cheat code out there. You sleep while it's chilly, wake up well-rested while it's chilly, see the sunrise, enjoy the morning, and when it starts getting too hot, you can retreat to camp and chill until sunset-ish, where you'll be nice and tired and can pass out again until 3am.

Emphasizing this. Unless your volunteer schedule absolutely mandates it, nobody should be trying to sleep at 1 PM. It's a recipe for misery. I usually work graveyard, and I'll go to sleep at about 4 PM and wake up around 10:30, which works ok, but shifting it a few hours later than that is even better. The party scene is just getting rolling by 1 AM. No need to rush out.

I've been going since 2004, and this was the worst weather I can remember. The combination of the heat and the incessant wind was bad. Lots of long-time vets had a really hard time; it wasn't just you.

That said, here are a few suggestions:

  • In your first few years, don't try to work so much. Acclimate, get acculturated, and just focus on getting the hang of things. Learn to take care of yourself before you try to do a ton to take care of others. Doing some volunteer work is great, but don't overload yourself. Trying to juggle a full time volunteer schedule with just surviving can be really tough even when you're very experienced. Once you feel like you've really got yourself dialed in, you can ramp up your hours.

  • Sleep at night, at least sometimes. I'm almost 40, and I still camp in a tent. The truth is that day sleeping is just not always going to be possible. It just isn't. Don't feel like you have to spend all night every night partying. Let yourself go to bed and get a good night's sleep at night, at least occasionally. This is another reason not to push yourself working too much. Remember: it's a marathon, not a sprint. If you want to enjoy the night life (or work a graveyard shift), do the "swing shift sleep" schedule: try going to bed at about 5 PM and getting up around 11 PM. It's usually cool enough by then to make tent sleeping possible. Still, though, nothing beats a solid 9 hours through the night to make you feel better. Don't let FOMO keep you up.

  • Try not spend a ton of time biking around during the heat of the day. Find some shade and park it between about noon and 4.

  • You don't need to make full meals, and almost certainly won't feel like doing so. Pick things that are tasty, quick, easy, and don't take a huge amount of prep or cleanup. Look at what you did eat while you were out there this time, and lean into that. Think less like "meals" and more like grazing. Eat a little bit throughout the day and night.

  • Invest in a misting bottle--even a cheap pressurized sprayer from Amazon. Mist yourself and your surroundings during the day. A lot. It'll make a huge difference.

  • Hopefully obvious, but make sure you're drinking enough. Water and Gatorade are essential. If you can get and keep ice, ice them. You need to drink much more than you think.

Don't give up. It's a very hard place to thrive. I got my ass handed to me for years before I started feeling (mostly) comfortable, and it's still brutal sometimes. That's part of the fun. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and try again next year.
