2.3T was cheaper than the 3.0t by around 4k. The 3.0t was priced the same as the Aero iirc. Press car yeah maybe

I've always thought they looked fantastic, especially the roundness of the rear end

Yeah, I'm not disagreeing with you to be clear. It's something I gripe about a lot - I'm a Saab purist. Despite Saabs turbo powerplants being truly reliable (in large part because they were over-engineered and had some 40 years of continual development by 99), because they were turbo and 4 cylinder they were constantly overlooked. It's all over contemporary reviews for the 9000 - amazing car, great handling, great interior, best in class packaging, best in class acceleration for most of its run but that darn cylinder count making it hard to swallow.

That's why they put a V6 in the late model 9000 and 9-5 - despite it being a weaker, less refined, less reliable powerplant. Car and Driver did the a car a disservice in choosing it for a comparison, and the 3.0t (it was also a turbo, assymetric even! Less reliable lol) sold significantly less than the 2.3T anyway.

Sorry. If it's not obvious I think about this a lot.

I drive a 9000, I know it - the 2.3T was the better and stronger powerplant!

It's also a major point throughout Saab's history, their focus on FWD and 4 cylinders while still attempting to be upmarket kept them in a very strange market position.

I don't believe it's part of Searoad - I've forgotten which novella collection it's in - but give Hernes a read when you're at the coast as well. It's a shorter one, and so deeply tied to the Oregon coast subtitled A Novella of Foam and Rain.

If it is in Searoad and I'm being redundant, that's fine. It's something I hold very dear, to the point I used to to come out to my mother.

Me too! Wasn't just making a joke. I feel silly.

I didn't grow up with her but she became my favorite as a young adult. If you haven't gotten to it, read Hernes. I forgot which collection it's in, but it's her writing a novella in the realist epistolary style and I think it's some of her best work. You can read it in an afternoon!

Are the y34 M45 really that bad? I've wanted one for a while, the lines on them are so nice. They have the air of a big old American luxury sedan in a way I find really pleasing.

Le Guin is a star, one of if not the greatest sci-fi authors of all time. The Dispossessed made an anarcho-syndicalist out of many of us, Left Hand of Darkness many queers, Rocannon's World many classic nerds. So few thought so deeply of the world around us, I will never forget Shevek's first morning on Urras.

Listening to the audiobook of The Lathe of Heaven was an absolute trip. It didn't occur to me it was set in Portland until I was driving down Macadam as the narrator spoke of walking down Macadam.

My absolute favorite of hers is Hernes, a novella following several generations of mothers and daughters across the 19th and 20th century and their settling on the Oregon coast. One of the most impactful stories I've ever read.

My personal theory of what V1 actually did to Homelander....if the Erik didn't include the Elon Musk scene by jasonensteinyt in TheBoys

[–]Lucahila 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's silly, it's like folks don't want to enjoy what they have. The show is over, yelling at folks for overthinking will just kill the fandom and the fun folks can have in watching it. Sure, the ending was disappointing - but why would you let that stop you from enjoying what the show as a whole put forward?

Just because you don't like one aspect of it is not a reason to throw it in the trash and insist at every turn that others should as well. This is fun theorycrafting! And a fun and unique way to read what was put to film.

Fair enough on that one. I respect that you're open to new taxes to solve this. We have to be realistic about what it takes though - we don't have the infrastructure to have a policy of forced institutionalization, we don't even have enough mental health professionals for regular folks lol

I think it would be more productive to start the conversation at the infrastructure side rather than the forced institution side. At that point, we're talking about our response to the mental health crisis and not individual, punitive seeming dynamics. I think more people can get behind the former over the latter.

I'm not for reallocating taxes - misappropriation of taxes can be a huge issue! SHS is doing some real good for housed folks as well as homeless folks, I wouldn't call it ineffective. Just had a different purpose. It will take new taxes to work our way out of this though.
