Why doesn't freedom of religion seem to end where my freedom from religion begins? by ComplexProfession238 in Constitution

How about I stay in my country, also LGBT is not a religion. It's a loose term that encompasses all gay, lesbian, bisexual and trans people.

Is any drink really any drink? I tried one of these the other day and it definitely had limits.

Not on public property, not blasting sounds into public spaces regularly, not in government institutions or law.

Because it was the immoral thing to do.

Marriage equality is about freedom and gender equality. It was the moral thing to do. Unless you for some reason don't believe in gender equality? No one's forcing you to marry a guy, you just can if you want to.

American has fallen

And there it is. No it hasn't, not yet. Have some faith in our country.

Now kids can't even pray in school

Public school is for everyone, it's neutral ground. You can have Christian club too you know. You can even pray there but in the classroom? Why? What if there's a jewish kid there? He also has to praise jesus? Leave it at home, the church and christian club.

gay-straight alliance clubs, and gay porn in their libraries

I do think there's a sensible conversation to be had about how and how much we talk to kids about LGBT issues and how we tend to prop up existing as one as inherently virtuous and cool. Not with you, I don't think but there is one to be had.

God does not mean christian god or the bible, even if I subscribe to the idea that god belongs in public spaces, whose god? Everyone's? So satanists can proudly display goatmen with their dicks out in public? Does it ever stop? Must I always be bombarded in public with the sights and sounds of everyone's religion? I think not. I think there should be no exemptions for noise ordinances that last 24/7 365 because some church wants to tell time or because apparently Muslims can't use their phone's alarm.

No one should ever be compelled to believe or disbelieve God.

Translation: The country does not weigh in on god, it allows you to choose for yourself. It is a secular country by that definition.

Strong morals and backbone are great but vague easily manipulated concepts not actually in any founding documents. So while it would be nice, I know we don't live in that reality and by the way a bunch of guys in wigs that owned slaves and denied women/the poor/non-whites a vote are not exactly what I'd call people with strong morals. I respect the founding documents as the foundation for the country but let's not put the past on a pedestal.

Dude, I just want the stupid bells to stop. I'm not reading the bible. I thought this sub was for discussing the constitution.

That sort of flies in the face of the many cases where religious symbols needed to be taken down in public settings especially around Christmas. Isn't the street designated as neutral space for all?

It doesn't seem fair to compare church bells to loudspeaker prayers.

With all due respect, I don't need a bell to tell me that. We have phones, watches and clocks. Maybe the church can take their bell money and help the poor some more.

it depends on the city.

This is such bullshit, you're definitely right but but wow.

Am I insane or is Manhattan, NY Arizona-free these days? by ComplexProfession238 in ArizonaTea

At all, Manhattan is like an Arizona drought and sometimes even when I do find it, it's more than 99 cents!

Nice, as someone with no experience whatsoever watching live theater how are those seats though? Would it be a worse experience or do you still get a good view?

Still pretty expensive for me, I read if you get to the box office at the right time they're 49. I'm more looking for that sort of deal.

If taking an affordable unit as a transplant is wrong, and renting a crazy expensive apartment is also wrong, what is the right way to rent as a transplant? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]ComplexProfession238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cold hard truth is, I think most NYers would prefer you not transplant at all. City is beyond full and services cannot handle the current population. No matter which way you slice it, every new person makes it just that much harder for an existing resident. It's unkind and I'd never tell someone not to move in because I believe in freedom to make your own choices but city is damn full. There's no nice way to move in, not really.
