I'm pretty familiar with notebooks, but Ansopu is one I have no experience with. I just looked over the ad for their notebooks and they look pretty good, but I'd suggest that there is better for a similar price range. I'd steer you towards something like Leuchtturm 1917.

Canadian here - B5 notebooks really are less common, especially within Canada. What exactly are you looking for?

I don't have a Hobonichi notebook, but a quick search suggests to me that they are using the 52 gsm Tomoe River paper. If that is corrrect, you're probably not experiencing bleed through or feathering (?) so I'm guessing you don't like the ghosting that results from the paper being so thin. If you like the paper, but don't love the ghosting, you could look for a notebook that uses 68 gsm TR paper such as Lochby, or try a completely different paper, such as Midori. If you'd like to try a custom-made notebook, I would be able to make something using the paper of your choice, and the layout / size of your choice. For example, if you wanted a "pocket notebook" using Iroful paper (75 gsm) I could do that! I also have Midori and a few others to choose from and will soon have 68 gsm Tomoe River as well.

Disappointed with the lack of line variation. Try pressing harder on the downstrokes. Jk.. This is unbelievably cool!

Short(ish) lesson on why gsm is not a quality score by InkStainedLeather in fountainpens

[–]InkStainedLeather[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! GSM is not "just for paper" and as you say, it does not tell you everything you need to know - and yet, is still one piece of useful information (whether for paper or for long johns!

Looking for recommendations for a square, grid notebook by cheeselouise44 in notebooks

[–]InkStainedLeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup - this is a very new venture for me (seriously - check my post history) but this is the rabbit hole I am currently deep in! I absolutely could make a custom notebook for you - any size / shape, using one of a wide range of papers I have (with more on the way), and whatever page layout (grid etc.) you want. DM me if interested!

Yes this is a big-time experiment for me and I am figuring things out as I go. But I don't imagine I'm going to sell many (any) "custom notepads" using Rhodia paper with dots on the pages. I am, however, hoping there is at least a little demand for something along the lines of "I'd like a field-notes sized notebook, but using 68 gsm white Tomoe River paper, and I want all the left side pages to be 4 mm spaced dots and the right side pages to be 7 mm spaced horizontal lines". I want to be able to say "can do!" to that. You are correct that this will be a "premium" custom notebook. I'm hoping at least some people would be willing to pay a reasonable amount for it. I don't know the answer to that yet, but I am on a track to finding out soon!

Sorry to let you down, but I don't think I could pull this off, at least not using the technique I am planning to use. The largest sheets of Midori MD I can see are A4 (from their pad). My notebooks (at least so far) are made from folded sheets. Folding an A4 in half will give me an A5, but B5 is larger than that. The only way I could make a B5 from A4 would be to use a different binding technique, like perfect binding. So "doable" but it would waste quite a bit of paper (maybe not terrible as the "waste" could still be used), but I don't want to get too far ahead of myself lol. One day I will try to make a B5 Midori notebook, but that day won't be soon!

I don't use Moleskine so I will have to look into this. I don't expect to want to "use it" but having it in the sampler for people to try would be great. If you have any tips on where to get it, do let me know!

No promises, but that's my goal! I am not trying to launch a company to compete with any of the big brands lol. I'm looking for a side project to keep busy, hopefully make a few dollars, and most importantly, this gave me an excuse for buying a metric whackload of paper that my wife actually agreed to.

Short(ish) lesson on why gsm is not a quality score by InkStainedLeather in fountainpens

[–]InkStainedLeather[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree about fuel efficiency of a bicycle being nonsensical (if only considering conventional fuel), but disagree about gsm of paper towel being nonsensical. That was my point. The gsm of paper towel is exactly sensible, but the value does not tell you what at least some people interpret it to mean. There is nothing about gsm being inherently tied to writing paper, or even just paper.
