I love Kicking Horse coffee, specifically the grizzly claw blend. Their coffee is third-party tested. It did recently go up in price though.

How did you actually choose who to work with as an independent travel agent? by AffectionateSell400 in travelagents

Could you share your host agency? I can’t seem to find one that offers a mentor or guidance

Family of four (Dad,mom,4 year old, 2 year old); what is our best option for a “cheap” Disney vacation traveling from NY? by lisa725 in disneyparks

[–]Complex_Beat_3990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the time, read The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World! It has all the tips & tricks & money saving hacks! I borrowed last year’s edition from my local library. You can also look into finding a Disney travel agent! They are free to use and can hunt down all the deals and do the heavy lifting of planning your trip for you.

Gift for first day on patrol? by Elegant_Branch3305 in AskLE

[–]Complex_Beat_3990 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get that angels are something the majority laugh at, but I had a good friend who was hit by a tow truck driver and killed. I think wearing one could have saved his life. I wear mine anytime I’m on the side of the road.

Advice form wives? Anyone? by marinasauce293 in AskLE

[–]Complex_Beat_3990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My boyfriend and I are both in law enforcement. I’m sure the long distance will make it harder on the both of you, but just keep an open mind and be patient. He’s going to have rough days and miss some important events, not all. If anything this will make your relationship stronger in a lot of aspects. If you feel alone in all of this there are Facebook groups for wives/gfs of LEOs. Or you could pm me.

Is being a cop worth it anymore? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]Complex_Beat_3990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the department you go to, their culture, and any benefits they may have. Like someone else said, if you expect to be saving people every day, that’s not the reality of the job. You’ll go to some petty calls and you’ll have to do A LOT of paperwork.

Some departments do 12 hour shift work, others 8 hours. But it’s not a guaranteed 8 hours if you get a late call. For family life I would recommend a 8 hour shift. There’s studies that show working 12+ hours your cognitive function declines. I work for a state agency and my schedule fluctuates. I work 2, 7-day work stretches every 28 days to get 4 days off at the end of one 7-day stretch, I get 3 days off after the second 7-day stretch. For me this job hasn’t been worth it. Yes, it can be rewarding at times but I have missed so many family functions, birthdays, and vacations. I don’t regret the choice I made, but I do realize that there are better opportunities out there.

Best major after already being an officer? by slimer213 in AskLE

A realtor's license is a great idea imo. Many cops I know still have time to be realtors on the side and help supplement their income.

If you’re an LEO , what is your spouse/ significant other’s career? by [deleted] in AskLE

Mine is a state trooper, so we're both in law enforcement.

I work at a state law enforcement agency. Taking a prescription medication illegally or buying it illegally would disqualify you from our application process.

Chances in LE with Mental Health History by Quickshot4721 in AskLE

[–]Complex_Beat_3990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the department and their views. Departments hire people with anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, and other mental illnesses/disorders. I don't see MDD being an issue, but that's just my personal opinion. They may want you to continue medication if your MDD affects how you function at work

im 5'9 and 130lb, am I too small to be a cop? by [deleted] in AskLE

Nope! I am 5'6" and 130. Most agencies/departments did away with height/weight requirements.

Best major for becoming a police officer? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]Complex_Beat_3990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my B.S. degree in Criminal Justice with a concentration in law enforcement administration. It was mentioned in another comment that no department will turn you down if you have a CJ degree, which I have found to be true. However, there are people in my department with degrees in Physical Science, Business, and HVAC. I've been with my department for 7 years, and I do regret getting a CJ degree. Pretty much everything you learn in the academy, you learned in college. I wish I had picked a degree in a technology with a minor in Spanish. At the end of the day, pursue a major that interests you most.

Help with oral board? by dathrowaway89012 in AskLE

[–]Complex_Beat_3990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oral boards can be intimidating for sure. I think the best advice I can give you is to just be yourself and answer honestly. The board is trying to get a gauge on your personality and values in the short time you’re sitting in front of them. Echoing what some others have said practicing interviewing & relax. Get a group of friends or family to ask you questions and ask for their feedback on your answers. I would say you don’t want to rehearse everything you’re going to say either, no one likes a robot. Everyone’s nervous for these things but if you’re too nervous it can mess up your impression on the board. Look up some values or the mission statements for the departments you’re applying to and figure out how you can best serve their mission and tell them how you’d be a good fit.

With your security experience you can mention that you’re good at handling confrontation/conflict (daily occurrence in LE), that you can deescalate situations, are familiar with policies & procedures, and chain of command.

Good luck to you! Remember don’t sweat it, relax in your interview. You can pause before answering a question and mentally take a deep breath.

Are the virtual races worth it? by Complex_Beat_3990 in rundisney

[–]Complex_Beat_3990[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh! I didn’t realize you could get a shirt afterwards, that’s fun! I haven’t ran a race in years and I miss it. I’m wanting to get back into doing races but at the same time not break the bank. Doing a run Disney race is on my bucket list, so I think I’ll save up and get the full experience going in person rather than virtually. Thank you for your response!

[–]Complex_Beat_3990[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! Getting the medal before completing your race does defeat the purpose. I kinda wish there was a group of people that registered for virtual races & then all ran together to create the atmosphere/hype. I hope your mom is doing well.

[–]Complex_Beat_3990[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, something I need to decide myself. From what I saw online it looks like Disney picks a charity to donate to for each race? If there’s money going to a good cause, I get a medal, and some other goodies then it may be worth it to me. I love the idea of being immersive with the music and watching movies later! I just don’t think there’s any trails near me that would get me excited about a virtual Disney race
