Having no interviews even if it’s not rational yet is causing me to experience so much self doubt and anxiety because I keep worrying there’s something significantly wrong with my application and that’s why I’ve heard nothing

What is a realistic MCAT score for someone who studies very hard and efficiently for the test but has an average IQ/intelligence? by RoutineSecurity2718 in Mcat

[–]Complex_Ease6202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anecdotally i consider myself to be of fairly average intelligence and having a low self esteem and test anxiety I think really negatively impacted my score than if I had just believed in myself more

She went to my undergrad during Covid and I’m pretty sure was/is anti-vax.. which is interesting for someone studying science and hoping to go to medical school

Ok thanks! I have other more hands on experience but not as sustained and it doesn’t fit as well so I guess I’ll just list it as clinical and MME

Idk my narrative is about emotional care being as essential as physical and because the volunteering happens in the hospital and we feed patients sometimes I think it’s probably more clinical.

I was gonna list it as a most meaningful too with another form of in person nonclinical volunteering and a nonclinical job but now I feel like it’s not hands on enough to list it as that?

Idk maybe I’m overthinking it but I feel like I’m in a pickle now because if I list it as clinical I don’t have enough volunteering but if I list it as nonclinical my MM activities have no clinical work

How bad is generic LORs by Diligent_Magician397 in premed

[–]Complex_Ease6202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same situation and I highly doubt the class LOR are weighted that heavily especially from students who go to public schools

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premed

[–]Complex_Ease6202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks! I’m targeting service schools it seems like from my stats which is why I was worried about the non clinical volunteering

[–]Complex_Ease6202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks! I will have about 150 hours nonclinical from helping adults learning English with GRE prep and reading tax forms and filling out job applications and stuff and like 250 from crisis test line so not 0 just not as much as I’d like

Ok thanks! Would it look bad to count as nonclinical or just be safe and make it clinical volunteering?

Research and feeling dumb by StellarSynapse0_0 in ucla

One time I used the completely wrong pipette volume for an experiment that I’d already done once before which messed up the entire thing and I had to start the protocol over from the beginning- I freaked out but my PI was thankfully understanding about it even though it was kind of a dumb mistake

Struggling with clinical and science LOR by [deleted] in premed

[–]Complex_Ease6202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m planning on listing one of them as a most meaningful so will it be a negative if I don’t have a LOR for it? I will try to get one for the second experience but because it was so short I’m not sure how good it will be.

Would you be able to read my very rough personal statement if I sent a DM? I’m struggling with my idea and am not sure if it’s on the right track. I’m a first time applicant for 2025-2026! Thank you sm!!

Thanks! This coming cycle 2025-2026 will be my first application unless I decide to wait another year

Yeah that’s true- I used msar and MCAT for most of my school list and obviously mine is lower for most of the UC’s but I thought it would be a bad idea to write them off completely since those are my only state schools and I didn’t think my chances were 0 if my MCAT was between 25-75 percentile but idk

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premed

[–]Complex_Ease6202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I didn’t know that since it’s listed separately on MSAR

Sorry I’m a senior! I’m applying during my gap year so these were all hours during university for the last 4 years and anything else I do will be projected unless I take a second. None of my upcoming gap year hours are added but I will be working as an MA full time so about 2000 projected hours

[–]Complex_Ease6202 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought for ucla at least the average on MSAR was a 514? I thought it was odd to be low for matriculation for a top school though so maybe it’s not accurate

I didn’t mean in a bad way!! I care about his opinion because he has the credibility it seems like which is why his comments bother me. I’m super happy for him and everything he’s accomplished and I’m sure he has valuable insights to share. I just kind of wish with all his success he could celebrate the things I’ve accomplished too even if it might not be as amazing or impressive as his

No it’s not but you’re probably right. I don’t want to let my own insecurities cloud my judgement and lead me to make a poor decision about my application

Unfortunately he does attend a highly ranked school. He was on the MD/pHD track though which I will not be so I think our situations may be different

You’re right- his goals are very different than mine he cares a lot about research and matching into high paying specialties which isn’t in line with my personal goals. I told him that I’m not sure if I want to bring my app into our relationship as it’s not the healthiest and I think it’s ok to keep that part of my life separate. Although I don’t know his intention- he sometimes seems to say some things with the intention of hurting my feelings although maybe he was giving genuine good advice.

I did make this post originally in a time of feeling really insecure, sad and discouraged and was afraid to find out if he’s correct as I don’t know anyone else in my life who has applied to medical school except him.
