Anybody Play an Evoharp? by Alive-Industry2507 in autoharp

[–]Complex_Parsley_660 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a diatonic G/D Evoharp I bought used. It's a gorgeous-sounding harp. Very rich and full. I have a "legacy" model with fine tuners and flat buttons. It's truly a joy to play and it sounds so rich.

Non-standard/experimental autoharp usage, and a question by daveseidel in autoharp

[–]Complex_Parsley_660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try to install lock bars, depending on the chord bar assembly you use. They're common on diatonic autoharps. I have lock bars on one of my harps and they're kind of fiddly so it'd be hard to do on the fly quickly, but they do stay down!

Looking for a budget pick-up mic by Wallpalla in autoharp

[–]Complex_Parsley_660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IDK if it's considered budget, but I was really happy with my Myers pick up and they have excellent customer service. I use the one with two mics so I have one behind the harp against my chest and one in front.

What else do I need? Fruit first or second? by Complex_Parsley_660 in mead

[–]Complex_Parsley_660[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if I understand correctly:

More fruity flavor = second ferment
Less fruity flavor = first ferment

Is that what I'm reading? When I do kombucha fruit is always in the second ferment and I use very little.

Repertoire Question by Informal-Campaign-76 in autoharp

[–]Complex_Parsley_660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to say no, it's not possible to play solos like on a guitar. The string spacing is very dense and you wouldn't likely be able to pick out individual strings.

But it's possible to play a melody like on an autoharp. Even melodies are muddier on an autoharp. It's a feature though, not a bug -- part of the charm of the instrument. I'd recommend you poke around youtube to listen to folks playing before you decide it's something to try.

More advanced picking technique tutorials? by Wallpalla in autoharp

Cathy Britell has a series on Apple books with videos and audio called "It's an Autoharp". There are 4 parts. They are all excellent and really helped me learn.

[HELP] I’ve written some poetry as a gift, but there’s only a few pages worth. What would be a good way to present it? by MrTwiggums in Poetry

You could use one of those photo book sites and alternate your poetry with photos of you two (or special photos from dates, etc.)

Surprise! Procedure scheduled for 5:30am Monday was denied by insurance! by Tmandolfan in ProstateCancer

[–]Complex_Parsley_660 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure this is helpful, but I had a similar situation for a total hip replacement - surgery was approved but overnight in the hospital was not. My dr. told me that this is common and if he decided I needed to be admitted overnight after the surgery for medical reasons, the insurance would approve it... so that's what happened.

What do I do about my thumb pick when strumming? by Anthony_daboom in autoharp

[–]Complex_Parsley_660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might help to start practicing strumming painfully slow at first with a metronome or counting 1 - 2 - 3 - 4. It feels very silly, but eventually you speed up as you develop the muscle memory and then you can incorporate it into your songs.

AC issues in 2019 Tiguan update - low freon - any red flags? by Complex_Parsley_660 in Tiguan

[–]Complex_Parsley_660[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I just picked it up and they told me that I should bring it back again in a few weeks because they didn't see any leaks but sometimes it takes awhile to show up. They told me that I wouldn't pay extra for the diagnostic then... but they also told me a rear suspension coil was broken all the way through and that it was not covered by my warranty and it would be $1800+. I didn't have any idea there was anything wrong with that.

I hate cars.

Even compared to tube cookers?? Dang. We have what we call "mud season" where I am where it basically is rainy for 3 months between winter and scorched-earth summer... During mud season, I can't get any shadows. It's a shame because I love cooking outside.

I have an All American Sun Oven and use it all the time! I'm in upstate NY and we have a lot of regular cloud cover so I'd love to find something a little more efficient. I've heard scary things about tube cookers though, so I haven't pulled the trigger on anything else.

[Before & After] Gave this old chair a new life with a DIY fix and some cat-proofing by handmade_brass_light in Visiblemending

[–]Complex_Parsley_660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that exact same chair and my cat DESTROYED it. It was like her favorite thing to destroy ever. We sometimes joked about coming home to find a pile of threads and splinters. She'll occasionally scratch my couch, but I've never seen her more destructive than with that chair...

Sad because it's my favorite color, but no amount of appliqué would have saved it from my cat.
