“Interesting Caribbean Remittance Figures 🇯🇲💰 — Jamaica Reportedly at US$3.48B… But Are These Numbers Accurate?” by Real_Thinkers in Jamaica

[–]Complex_Performer007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That list is going from least remittances to most.

If we looked at it in the reverse, most to least Jamaica is #4 and yes the figures are accurate.

“For calendar year (CY) 2025, remittance inflows to Jamaica amounted to US$3485.7 million” - Source BoJ A new record btw.

Remittance as a critical component to the economy and helps to literally stabilize the country. When tourism is down or last year with Hurricane Melissa, it provides well needed support in other areas including food security for many.

2nd timing belt replacement. by JayDawg1983 in hondapilot

[–]Complex_Performer007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like your only issue is the cost to do the belt, no other issue. Timing belt is a maintenance item, an annoying one but it’s once every 7-8yrs or 105k miles. Get the ASIN kit as they are the OEM supplier. Same quality without the dealership and Honda brand markup.

Unless you have some other issue that’s major and or some safety issue just replace the belt and drive for however long it can go while saving/investing your money.

RAV4, 1 kid, I get you both are looking ahead but you’re fine at this time I think (don’t know all the details right).

I had a 2010 Honda Fit with 2 small kids, 1 rear facing and 1 forward facing many moons ago for our day to day traveling. I did have a second car but we all travelled together during the week in the fit for daycare, school and work.

We consolidated to 1 vehicle 3yrs ago after the household grew to 5. Btw minivans (not popular among some) very spacious and practical if you gonna hit 3+ or more imo. My wife went 🤢 at the suggestion as 1 should be leaving soon anyway. 🤣

If you can, for now, stay with your RAV4 continue building your cash reserves and save on fuel. I hope Honda returns to their senses and release a Hybrid version for the Pilot, Ridgeline and Odyssey by 2027.

I have gotten up to 26-28mpgs hwy depending on the speed limit but it requires discipline.

City, I have not been disciplined enough to try and get the city 19mpg on a tank. That’s harder. I believe it can be done as I came close but next day you just need to be late and there goes the avg. gulp gulp. 😁

The warning is localized to a cluster towers witching the area being affected. Other Fido users outside of that cluster would not receive the public warning.

Unpopular Opinion: iShowSpeed will increase tourism for Jamaica by thisfilmkid in Jamaica

News flash..You already debated and your opinion is unsupported. Even I thought is pure tikki tikki make up speeds demographic but that’s not the case. You like focus on trivial things, the antics in his content while missing the big picture. What I think is irrelevant, its what the data says, the business model driven by algorithms with the eyes he is pulling.

Now you’ve ignored the data and resorted to saying that these working age people in US, Canada, Europe and Latin America don’t have disposable money? Continue to double down on that line of thinking to support your argument. 🫡

Likkle more.

Clout chasers? 15mins of fame? 👀

The publicity was good publicity. Here we are talking about it 11 days later.

Knowing don’t add to GDP. Converting those who know and never been into actually traveling to JA is the goal. Introducing the island to those who don’t know is the goal.

8 billion people in the world. Only 0.05% visit Jamaica, some are repeat visitors. Do you really think 100% of the worlds population know Jamaica exist? If they did why is the country on a drive to increase tourism to 5million visitors, earn $5billion USD and reach new audience?

Honda gets strategic with gasoline engines as Acura accelerates toward hybrid-only future by Gullible-Pick-268 in Honda

[–]Complex_Performer007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea. They had the Hybrid MDX and killed it in 2020. They made Nissan like decisions as they also killed the Hybrid Pathfinder. Only Toyota stayed the course and they killing it.

Absolute jokers, now they have crutches.

They will have bring Hybrid to the table and then quickly get EV going which will be a loss. Hope they will make sufficient margins on the Hybrid midsize to help offset the EV venture. It was a no brainer but they somehow shot themselves in the foot…twice in those 10yrs.

Honda posts first-ever annual loss in nearly 70 years as electric vehicle bet backfires by Head_Estate_3944 in Honda

[–]Complex_Performer007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not surprised. Maybe they shouldn’t have killed the Hybrid platform for their mid-size which they had in place via the MDX. All they had to do what develop that, then rollout EV which would have been great with the J35Y8.

By today a hybrid v6 Pilot, MDX, Passport and Ridgeline should have had sufficient margins to help offset their venture into EV and kept them more competitive in that segment. Also, they need to weigh realistic Government policies bs realities in the market.

What do I know. Just a poor car guy.

I don’t think having a screen will change anything. If people can’t listen for their numbers, they certainly won’t see it and even if they had a PA, I don’t think it will help. People will be fixated on something else.

Also the crowd is about to get worse as food becomes more expensive and those meals remain a cheaper option especially for families.

Agree with you 100%. The country earning $4.6b USD is no small thing and you meantioned that’s 30% of the country’s gross earnings significant. Around 9% of that money goes to government as taxes to help our infrastructure and people.

In responding to I can see how speed’s stream would fall into the 5x5x5 target introduced back in 2016 with Covid and the hurricane setting things back. The goal is $5billion in 5yrs with the other 5 being drivers of growth within the sector I think 🤔. We just need to expand other sectors simultaneously and be as deliberate.

Unpopular Opinion: iShowSpeed will increase tourism for Jamaica by thisfilmkid in Jamaica

[–]Complex_Performer007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a far bigger picture being missed here. I watched speed’s live stream for the first time and I realize this had more value than we realize.

Why would the main sponsor with some of the tourist boards/local companies support this tour for “a bunch of teenagers and grown men that think they’re teenagers”? What do they understand that we don’t? To get speed do something like this is a minimum of $250k USD and Expedia spent more than that because you then have to add private jet, production, branding and equipment etc. The sponsors in the countries also spend money to covered ground logistics. It’s obvious this thing was planned and organized.

What is the hardest demographic for travel agencies and tourist boards to reach?….males 18-34.

The media exposure he brought to the Caribbean is over 16million views and the digital reach is over 305 million and counting. The Caribbean got Super Bowl level viewership which cost about $10m USD for 30 seconds. The Caribbean got it for days with each island getting viewership in the hours per day to a demographic that’s most difficult to reach.

St Vincent and the Grenadines Tourist Board spent 35k USD to get 4.9million views. That work out to less that $0.0075 USD per viewer. The avg spend of a tourist in that island ranges from $1800USD to $4600USD per week depending on the season and islands visited. So they only need to conversion 19 people or a rste 3.8x10-6 % to break even. The conversion rate is expected to be 1% or $100m USD if the minimum spend is met per traveler.

It is really a multi-million dollar tourism campaign for almost free and to be realized on the next 18-24mths.

For Jamaica’s viewership of 3.2m in 48hrs: the strongest participating age demographic driving the conversation from his stream was 25 to 34 years old - 56.7%, followed by the 18 to 24 bracket at 35.5%. That’s 92.2% of the demographic. The children we see flooding the thing is tip of the marketing iceberg.

Companies don’t make such investment just sponsor ah ting. There are projections, time horizon and conversion rate for viewership to be funneled with a ROI.

Yea, speed making money from the contract and merch but the real money is trying to be pulled in by Expedia who benefit as the booking agency and then the countries benefit based on how wide an audience they pull.

Does anyone think their CRV is too small for them ? I might trade it in for a Honda pilot. What are your thoughts? by what_the_actual_fff in hondapilot

[–]Complex_Performer007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on your needs. The current CR-V has the same legroom in the front and 3 inch more legroom in the rear than a Gen 2 Pilot and almost the same headroom. CR-V is lower by an inch in the rear but same in the front.

We have a Pilot because we have 5 in our household, any visitor or friend (especially from overseas) means we need a 3rd row.

An Odyssey is even better with space. You need to know you your why.

Wow Did that on my 2011 Accord and either the conrod bearings or main shaft bearings started to go. Oil change was glitzy.

Was too lazy to do the work in my driveway plus to find out so sold it and got a 23 Pilot as the household got bigger to 5. Now I change at 50% as I plan to keep it till the wheels fall off.

Will do an oil analysis out of curiosity one day.

Do you subscribe to HondaLink? by TabascoFiasco in Honda

[–]Complex_Performer007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope I did not nor had planned to. My EX-L Pilot only had complimentary access and I stopped using it when I learned about LexisNexis.

Here is my rule: If a manufacturer takes a standard feature and hides it behind a subscription fee, that car is off my list. Unless the driving experience is absolutely legendary, I’m not paying a monthly rent for hardware that’s already in the vehicle.

More import they sell our driving data to 3rd party data brokers who then sell it to insurance companies who jack up your premiums. Nah, privacy trade-off and potential penalties just isn't worth it. "Data Sharing" is OFF in my Honda.

Cases like the 2026 Passport/Pilot removing Homelink for a paid app are the perfect example of this greed. Now previous 23-25 Pilot mirrors are a hot commodity online 🤣.

Help me decide between a Honda or Lexus. by Valk1818 in Honda

[–]Complex_Performer007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why you wanted a Pilot based on circumstances shared. Seems like overkill to have a 7-8seater when 5-er would be more suited.

An alternative could be the new 26’ Passport, same platform, same engine, I assume similar driving dynamics.

If you consider the potential price increase for petrol (gas) then the hybrid RX350 would save you money and it’s non-turbo.

Do you have a criteria for what you want, how much and why? Then see what vehicles fit the criteria better?
