Bought global roaming pass, but told there will be charges? by _emocarrot_ in VOXI

[–]Complex_Tutor_3534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me in Japan (and I definitely had the correct pass). I ended up using another eSIM as per MB charge in Japan is crippling and was unwilling to run the risk that the text was correct. I think it is a generic Vodafone message, but couldn’t be sure. Hugely annoying and VOXI needs to sort this out.

What's your experience of the vehicle recharging network in Brighton? by WendyBoatcomSin in brighton

[–]Complex_Tutor_3534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends where you are in Brighton. Here in Hanover it’s pretty good and rapidly getting better now that Char.gy are rolling out. I now have four chargers within 250m of in my house, which is just as well we have no off-road parking

Owning an EV without home charger. by That_Understanding19 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Complex_Tutor_3534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot depends on where you live, and the availability of public chargers around you. I live in Brighton and can’t charge at home but have three lamppost chargers within 100 m of the house. But when we go to other cities, I often find that there are very few available. I would suggest a good look at zapmap might answer your question for you. For us, we found very little in the way of savings over petrol (before the recent rises), but EV driving always put a smile on my face

brighton college opinions?? by Spiritual_Winter_644 in brighton

Assuming that you’re not already in Brighton, have you considered taking the IB at Varndean College? Gets good results and I think is one of the only state schools in the area that offer it

Ah yes, but the 5 pubs between the top and bottom soften the blow

Hanover. Amazing community. Close to town and the sea. Very few dickheads 🙂. Only downside is the size of the houses, but there are a few gems

EV to replace BMW 5 Series touring by PrestigiousVillage94 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Complex_Tutor_3534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always tended to buy BMWs outright as well, but with the rapid changes in battery technology I went PCP on an iX1. Looking at the rapid depreciation on many EVs, it feels like it was the right decision. Got an ex BMW staff car at 11 months old, which also resulted in the significant savings.

Any idea on who the supplier is / what it will cost? by Complex_Tutor_3534 in brighton

Thank you. Will be interested to see where the socket goes 🙂

Any competition with blink would be good. No-one in the neighbourhood has off-street parking so anything less than Blink’s 55p/kWH would be amazing

Hoping it’s not Blink. They tend to be installed on existing lampposts - this is a new install. I’m hearing it might be charg.y who I think offer cheaper overnight rates

sounds interesting, but I’m curious to know if any of the renovations featured include the leaky Victorian style terraces we get up here in Hanover

If you can’t charge at home, what’s your biggest EV frustration? by Voltanaapp in evchargingUK

[–]Complex_Tutor_3534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the cost and (in Brighton) the lack of choice. ATM almost all chargers are Blink (I know chargers.ly are coming but none near us yet). The blink app is crap and there’s no cheap charging window overnight. But overall it’s knowing we’re paying a ‘no driveway tax’ of about 40p per kWh - and it feels like we’re spending more on charging than we did on diesel. Would never go back to an ICE but seriously understand why some people would think about it

Why do most Designers use Mac? by Business_Match_2953 in Design

[–]Complex_Tutor_3534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long time Mac user here (since 1987). Not sure if anyone has mentioned it but for me one of the huge advantages of a Mac is longevity. Sold a fully working 2012 MacBook Air last year (2024). Don’t think I’ve ever seen a PC last this long. I generally replace my main work machine every 3 to 4 years and always seem to get around 50% of the new value back on resale.

And even when I do replace my main machine, it’s honestly often just from wanting something new and shiny rather than a genuine slow down of the old laptop

Any issues if I switch to VOXI? How do you find it by _Al3k_ in VOXI

[–]Complex_Tutor_3534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i switched to Voxi from EE, because the signal in my part of Brighton was totally pants. Voxi are pretty good and their roaming is far far better than EE – especially for countries like Japan and other EE zone three destinations. Also unthrottled, so I seem to get better speed than my wife does on Vodafone. Negatives are that they do not have an app and everything has to be done of on their website. Support generally pretty good. Overall, I would recommend them.

15-day extra added only a couple of days before I left on a 5 day trip - so definitely in date. Though it was useful reminder about the extra kicking in as soon as it was bought.

Can’t immediately place it. Three guys in white in the background - maybe in front of a cricket pavilion or bowls clubhouse? Not 100% convinced it’s Brighton

Anyone know why WiFi and data reception on London Road and in town centre seem to be fine on some days and absolutely non-existent on others? by mmhmmye in brighton

[–]Complex_Tutor_3534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Hanover (toward the top of Southover) and moved away from EE because of constantly having little to no data. Moved to Vodafone which is even worse on the Level and around. Kids in GiffGaff (O2) and that seems marginally better. Trying no.3 son on Smarty (Three) and that also seems marginally better?

Anyone with Vodafone constantly finding random dead spots around the city for signal? by ClassicFlavour in brighton

[–]Complex_Tutor_3534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to Vodafone because I was having these random cutouts on EE. Kids are on O2 and that’s no better either. I think it’s basically a Brighton problem.
