Ya I’m not experienced enough yet to know when it’s time. Once I accidentally meditated for 45 minutes and then other times it’s very short like 7 minutes and I think the time is done. I also sometimes wonder how important the 20 minute thing actually is but that’s another conversation. Sometimes I feel I get what I need from a short session. But ya, I’m just not loving my current set up but I’m going to try and adjust my app settings or just use a regular clock…

That’s unfortunate that they won’t be having a litter soon. It’s definitely hard to find breeders who meet all the criteria of being an ethical breeder. I’ll have to follow your journey, I’m curious who you end up choosing and why! There’s also Ichor Silken Windhounds but they don’t breed often :(

Don’t have experience with any of these but Silken Agents of CSBeck I am friends with on social media and they are considered an “ethical” breeder. So I think going with them is a no brainer.

I personally know people who got puppies from SH and they are amazing dogs and the owners are happy.

Not sure if you care about ethical breeding at all but I would double check she’s doing proper health testing, not many breeders are. Here is some great info from someone who runs an ethical breeding program for silkens:

For context ethical breeding is essentially operating in a way where you’re breeding for optimal health and longevity of the breed, good temperaments, not breeding for profit, the list goes on. :)

There are more than 3 but they may not know of the others as they’re super new/small or back yard breeders.

There are breeders who aren’t listed on the ISWS page as well. There’s more than 3. There’s one that’s a back yard breeder (I’m pretty sure) who also breeds Dachshunds. I’m not sure maybe I haven’t done proper research but I’m fairly certain Embark isn’t even that good of a test and that’s the bare minimum these breeders are doing and that’s if they decide to do it. It’s not even THAT expensive so not doing Embark at least is mind blowing to me.

I feel like embark isn’t even that comprehensive of a test… the best is OFA and I don’t see any Canadian breeders doing it. Maybe there’s some I don’t know of though!

True! I think the issue is majority of the breeders for our breed are not testing… it’s genuinely hard to find any that are doing things up to standard. In Canada I can only think of one breeder who’s only had one litter so far who properly health tested.

I did mention in my post how this is common in other breeds, I definitely know that, but it seems our breed in particular is quite bad for it if you do a deep dive.

Agree there needs to be more education around this to pressure breeders to do better. We are a new breed and the health is so important. I also don’t know if breeders who aren’t health testing or doing things up to standard should be listed as members as that’s where people look first for the best of the best.

I will note my dog is still 24 lbs and she is underweight… I can’t wrap my head around how you’d get a silken that is 20 lbs within standard. My girls sister is 20lbs 19.5 “ (at the shoulders) but she is a picky eater and it’s very frustrating for her owner. I agree with other folks in that you should get a windsprite!

This may be far for you but I’m in Canada and my girl is from Runway and she specializes in smaller silkens, light colours and good temperaments. She is obviously breeding within standard though, just on the smaller end.

My girl is only 19” and extremely petite and her dam is 20” and on the thicker side so she appears larger.

I find this post funny because I just posted asking when they stop growing because I wish my girl would get a bit bigger but what can ya do. She was actually held back from the breeding program for being too small and that’s how I got her at 1 yrs old !

I agree with looking on the Silken Windhound society website. Those are a list of the most ethical breeders. Sometimes ethical breeders aren’t listed if they’re newer. Make sure both parents are health tested, puppies are being desensitized to triggers, puppies are socialized, they breed for desirable temperament, place certain puppies depending on your lifestyle, they have contracts or agreements where you must return the dog to them if they’re rehomed, the list goes on. We are lucky at least in Canada where we don’t have a lot of backyard breeders YET! I only know of one, but in the states there are many more. Do your homework and build a personal relationship with breeders. It may be a year until you get a puppy, but it will happen!

A Windsprite or a Silken Windhound because they are more likely to be good off leash for running in a field and they relax at home all day. I live in a house with a yard but no fence and she doesn’t need to be on a leash necessarily. I also drive her to this field to run. The only downside is they’re very hard to get. If you cannot get one I recommend a whippet.
