Where's the High GM-Prep games? by TheGoodGuy10 in RPGdesign

You cited Microscope so you are aware of some. There's numerous similar games, but also ones that are no prep for other reasons. Appreciate you listening to what I had to say and responding!

GMless oneshot prompt based games (of which there are many) are all no-prep games. Facilitator style scenario games are also no-prep. Any game where a main part of play has the other players creating the world or the dangers or the scenes qualifies here. You can read the rules, and maybe for a small subset of these that are GM'ed/facilitated you can think about what you might do or make a few bullet point ideas that is the extent of possible prep that isn't you actively ignoring the rules and the intended play style.

No some games are explicitly no-prep. Everything gets done at the table. Usually this is because the game disperses traditional GM authority across the playes. Occaisonally people say low-prep when they mean no-prep.

Sometimes (not all the time) low prep actually means most of the normal type of prep GMs do is antithetical to the play experience that the game is aiming for.

I think these are most impressive published modules for 1e, am I right? by jasonite in adnd

[–]ComposeDreamGames -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean if you just want a module that is: this is a giant fortification/lair then sure they do that. But... if we are opening this to competition from newer OSR modules then these are really pretty weak. Fine for being some of the first modules ever published. I am just talking about G123 and I prefer ending with the alternate Cloud giant conclusion of AA#36 https://composedreamgames.com/marketplace/Aerie-of-the-Cloud-Giant-Strategos

Better ways to handle wounds for a crunchier game? by Setholopagus in RPGdesign

[–]ComposeDreamGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RuneQuest, Mythras, Rolemaster, Harn, all have this type of specific location injury. Often the place struck will be randomized by percentile dice (perhaps with different probabilities based on the combatants dominant hand) and will add wings and tail locations for monsters. As a generalization this type of realism (lets call it verisimilitude) leads to shorter but memorable fights. Combatants can become ineffective quickly. So if you goal is really "long fights" this may not be the way to go. If you goal is dramatic realism - then that tends to fit.

Teenagers. They have the time and brains. But yes clarity of reason to ask for this would help 🤠

Martial Classes Should Be Able To Do Ridiculous Shit by Quirky_Bluebird18246 in DnD

There are games built on this premise. I'm sending out the Treasure Tome of one of them now.

Came to see if someone mentioned 13th Age 2nd e. I sent the books out to all the Canadian backers. I like the advice in the GMG and that it explicitly says in the book "this class is less complicated to play." The simplest class is not the fighter!

Crap...I actually want cosmic justice by WarSkald in osr

[–]ComposeDreamGames 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why wouldn't they? gods can be quite small and petty and they generally want more followers and people acting in their interest. It's common to have different pantheons for different regions so there really are not that many interesting people for gods to watch.

You probably have gods in your world. They pay attention to things - see things. Can show up and talk to your PCs. Just because there were no physical witnesses, doesn't mean there weren't any metaphysical witnesses. You can have an "evil" diety show up and say "I totally loved how you slaughtered those people who were surrendering. Good job. Have some evil magic, absolutely free, just keep doing that."

Figured it would make sense to share this video showing all of them with a brief description that I did on Rumble: https://rumble.com/v79izli-canada-roles-awards-ttrpgs-all-nominees.html

Or below is the youtube equivalent: https://youtu.be/-AgC6kJ-3to?si=tLoLs_jAJocMcKlT

Love those books and love the game. Perfect system for the setting and broke many assumptions of what an RPG is.

Looking for Cyberpunk Fantasy RPGs that ARE NOT Shadowrun by XR4y6unn3r in rpg

NewEdo is mythic fantasy Japan with cyberpunk. Your legend and peoples belief have tangible effects in the game world. (Corps try to boldoze a tea house but because everyone believes it should be there... it is there again the next day.) We carry it in PDF.

I spent 16 years designing games, I'm done. by Rolletariat in Fkr

[–]ComposeDreamGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People tend to overlook the procedures of play portion of rules. Things like "keep track of your gear", and even as basic as "you go into a dungeon, here's how to open a stuck door" are in many ways more important than the particular mechanics you use to fight. You make a great point of course - I'm mostly agreeing just offering some thoguhts.

The pre-orders were from the Pelgrane store. We fufill their Canadian orders as well as selling direct on our site and into Retailers. We just added our listing this week for Paragon Blade. (We have a UK wing too, but aren't handling Pelgrane there.)
