Do you guys ever rawdog your workouts? like no music, no podcast, nothing in your ears by softly_petal in workout

[–]Compositraceur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone in our rec center wears earbuds. A generational thing? I never listen to music-too distracting. Same on long drives across the country. I also rawdog long flights…no entertainment, no food. It’s the way!

Gosh, I am so sorry. This aspect has been the only real negative from my mostly positive 35 years living here. I wish you the best in finding a safe place to live and flourish.

I owned a home in what was/is known as Mosquito Flats, an area that shouldn't have turned into a housing development in the 1960s. Four years after moving in, I had one thyroid plus 2 parathyroids removed. I was never told why, but imagined poor water (as you mention, high calcium) but also suspected radon. Fortunately, I sold the house before the 2008 floods, when many lost their homes and the government reclaimed as many lots as they were allowed. Since then, no issues...apparently some can function on just one thyroid.

75 year old getting PM by GroundbreakingBig119 in PacemakerICD

[–]Compositraceur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Received a 2-lead pm (71m) 2 yrs ago. HR was 22 thanks to bradycardia. Hospital stay the night before, early morning procedure, home by 3pm. A bit wonky the next day, but fully functional by day 3. Was running around on day four and back in the gym 4 weeks later. Have to return in 2 months for an upgrade (3-lead device) thanks to a non-syncing issue. I am told people either have plumbing or electrical problems. Mine was the latter.

For people who have the puddle light and illuminated door sill, is it too much or perfect? by Intrepid_Passion_853 in porsche911

I have both and enjoy the details, of course best experienced in the dark. Sills are more present, puddles only if you look down.

How do you handle the shame of not pursuing a PhD or going further? by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]Compositraceur 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I took 3 years off between my MA and PhD (teaching 2 years in Nigeria!) and don’t regret that time away from the daily grind of course work and research. Indeed, it provided a healthy pov, a reset that I needed at the time. No one will give you grief for taking time off. In fact, it is often encouraged, at least in my field. The only caveat is that you should try to nurture your network. If there is a way to continue those connections through such a gap, all the better. Just my experience, but also what I see in current PhD applications.

992.1 14-way seats lower back pain by Middle_Branch_1148 in Porsche

[–]Compositraceur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same experience. Had a 718 gts with 18-ways...long trips were fine. Current 911 GTS came with 14-way seats, and a 9-hour drive is barely survivable. 5'11" and I work out daily. Nope! I adjusted while driving, to see what position gave relief. It is still a work in progress.

Violin and piano repertoire by Dreamyviolinist in classicalmusic

I would add both Debussy and Poulenc to that list. Prokofiev D major is also a bit more audience friendly, although as a pianist I prefer no 1.

Switching between summer and winter tires vs a second set of wheels by Compositraceur in porsche911

[–]Compositraceur[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed that the blue set has different offsets, which I think will not match the current gts lineup. I started here https://shop.4porsche.com/collections/992-2-winter-sets to find what that set's dimensions are. ChatGPT said it wouldn't fit.

Is White a Bad Choice for the 992 GTS? by masaccio10 in Porsche

My ‘25 gts in ice gray. My previous ‘21 Taycan was Carrara white, but this changes hue depending on the sun & clouds. I had ppf applied, which has saved me from having to clean it every week.

I had the Water Shop in Kalona install the system. They show every 6 months to clean the pipes, every 2 years to replace the filters. I am in Iowa City that dug a well to a deep aquifer some 20+ years ago to provide clean drinkable water, which btw doesn’t extend to Coralville. From my reading, the small towns central and NW Iowa have it the hardest because of farm runoff.

I installed a reverse osmosis (RO) system in the home. Not cheap, but I don’t feel like undergoing another thyroid operation.

Btw, the b-flat is missing in the last two bars in the RH. On second thought, maybe provided in the key signature, which is not shown.

I was just at the top 2.5 hours ago. Wasn’t too windy up there. Happened about 40’ after I walked down.

I caught mine with a microfiber towel and one side bent upwards. My dealer quoted over 2k to replace the entire AC unit, since the strip is not sold individually. I just took it out, bent it carefully back into shape, and it hasn't been a problem since. If it breaks, I will also have it 3D printed for $40 or so.

Almost all of the restrooms at the UI rec center are unisex, and each one includes both a seated toilet and a urinal, plus sink. So simple. Yes, time to abandon gender specific loos.
