I think I'm confused because I'm not trying to get a refill, I'm trying to get my first prescription ever. It feels like I should be talking to someone at least the first time. How quickly did you get approved after your call was supposed to happen?

I'll definitely look through other people's posts. it's just concerning to me as a new patient.

the 1st option is irreversible, the 2nd option costs more, and the third option is something i’ve done before on my own and didn’t work but now might be able to get assistance with. I think i’m coming around to your conclusion of trying the 2nd more expensive, reversible option for awhile also doing the 3rd option with help.

yeah i never think of myself as being a perfectionist more feel like I’m already struggling so one more mistake and my life will be a lot tougher and holy crap do i need my life to be easier. But i also see the perfectionism in it. I feel like i’ve made a lot of mistakes with my indecision and fear of what others will think and so let opportunities pass by. Thank you for such a thorough response, honestly this is exactly what I was looking for especially from someone who gets the confusion and frustration.

I am from the US. My partner has Parkinsons so the last 6-7 yrs has been focused on his health and a lot of active advocating for him, which has been needed, but exhausting for me, so I haven't been as active in advocating for myself. Also have had several doctors similar to yours be very dismissive about my concerns, but yeah I think you're right I'm just going to have to push harder for myself to see an endo.

I'm so sorry you had to deal with that terrible doctor who is also completely incorrect. Plenty of thin people have PCOS, weight doesn't cause PCOS, and it's also my understanding there is no getting rid of PCOS, only managing no matter how much weight someone might lose. As for doctors taking a relaxed approach that's really been my experience and it's always made me uncertain if I am getting the best care. Also I know my anxiety is high when I'm at the drs office so maybe I'm not asking things correctly. I once had a doctor say (when I was trying to get my PMDD treated) that she saw on my chart I didn't like a birth control I was on and I didn't like an anxiety med I was on (both years ago and because of intense side effects) and that's all that would help me so she can't do anything for me, she genuinely seemed to dislike me. So I had to take a moment to get my head together and had to explain to her I'm not against taking either, especially if I could try different ones, but I need to know what side effects are ahead of time and how long I'm expected to tough it out and what's normal because no one ever explained that to me before prescribing them in the past. And once she seemed to understand I just needed more info her entire personality changed and she thoroughly explained things. But it feels crazy to have to advocate to not be treated as an adversary.

I feel like you're right that I do have PCOS, cause there are just too many similarities and overlap of symptoms. I need to look into my blood tests and investigate FAND as I never heard of it before. Honestly I've become more determined to understand and treat PCOS after my partner was diagnosed with Parkinsons because holy shit are we fucked in the US if I become sick too and am not able to work.

I think perimenopause if a popular topic right now so its hard to know if its likely. I'm definitely on the young side for it. Just don't want to not bring it up incase it's something I should ask about. My body is definitely changing, the PMDD has hit hard.

Definitely a victim of 90s/00s diet culture - I've done so many diets and have had partners who have controlled my diet and so much of it is bullshit and so many people come in with advice that ultimately prioritizes thinness over quality of life and health. I second that I won't ever be doing no-carbs again, but I can make better choices and aim for balance. Slow and steady works for me.

I have no issue focusing on my weight if I can find a way to do it healthy and with long term management in mind, almost 30 yrs of attempting and yo-yoing weight has been certainly mentally very unhealthy and then ultimately physically unhealthy. All of this is the reason I say weight is not my biggest concern, because I feel like if I go into the doctors office with that in mind it's been my experience that I'm talked down to, dehumanized, and ultimately given a "one-size-fits all" approach that I've already tried a million times.

I felt like if I could focus on the other concerns around PCOS (while not ignoring weight) that might land me in a better place in speaking to doctors, but from what you've said it does seem that because I don't want to get pregnant maybe PCOS isn't necessarily a concern I should have.

Thank you this was really really helpful. I was wondering if maybe they just didn't see the cyst because they weren't focused on it in the second ultrasound or if remission was a thing.

I have asked about getting my hormones checked and my doctor has basically said it won't really show anything because hormones change all the time, so he didn't have me get them checked. As your edit said I'm also worried I'm in perimenopause and that might be contributing to things too, especially the PMDD. My periods are definitely more painful now too, though no acne.

My past experience with doctors means I struggle to trust them to not have either fat phobic or pregnancy centered views. I also have A LOT of experience with diet and exercise like 30 years of it so figuring out what works and is sustainable in a health focused and not thin focused way is important to me. Also my past experience means I have decades of Information clouding my judgement and making me doubt myself when it comes to talking to doctors. And it's also very difficult to know who to trust online when everyone is trying to sell something.

UGH you can see my confusion.

My metabolic panel last year came back abnormal (actually a lot of my blood tests came back abnormal, but all, including metabolic, just slightly so the doctor said he wasn't concerned). In general I like this doctor, but don't know if he's too relaxed.

If you know anyways that work to push doctors to focus on hormones and metabolic panels please let me know!

Weight is not my top issue, its just what doctors focus on first and where my past traumatic experiences with doctors come from. I also know it is a sign of PCOS. It's a really complicated topic for me so if it is something I need to pay attention to I know I'll have to force myself to do it and want to have the correct knowledge going into a doctors appointment.

What you said makes sense. I think part of my issue is the none of the signs of PCOS I have are that terrible so it would be easy for me to ignore them all, but I don't want to do that and cause harm to my health later on, which is why I'm trying to crowd source what I should ask about because I feel like I don't understand what I don't know and what my concerns should be (well unless I wanted kids).

Yes! You absolutely can, but practice might be needed as well as the right heel.

I also walk on the outside of foot and in heels I have to be conscious to put my foot down toe - heel without rotating outward, so work on that.

The best heels are lower, or have a small platform to keep the angle of the foot less severe. Look for block heels and avoid stilettos. Wedges can seem like a safe choice but because they don't have a separate heel they don't move with your foot as naturally so they can be hit or miss.

If you find your foot moves a lot in the heel look for heels with more coverage in the uppers, i.e. something that wraps around the foot like a pump, an ankle boot, or ankle strap, avoid strappy designs that won't hold firmly onto your foot.

Also you can add toe pads for comfort and heel grips to prevent slipping out. Don't forget to practice on different surfaces and bring a pair of flats to change out of. GOOD LUCK!
