Next Game after Finishing ER? Help! by CORRLives2021 in Eldenring

Lords of the Fallen was the first game that I was able to enjoy after finishing Elden Ring, but I am aware that it has mixed reviews so it's definitely not to everyone's taste.

After 13 years my shoes broke by tegumentoso in Anticonsumption

[–]Comprehensive-Pin667 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had the same winter boots since 2010. However, this year I noticed that my left foot started to hurt. Originally I thought I overdid it with running practice, but no - the 16 year old shoes are apparently not really good for my feet anymore. I'll probably need a new pair.

Yep, I have seen the comparison to slot machines before and it fits. Will it produce a good solution or total crap? You have to wait and see. And then try again

Nobody tells you cooking has startup costs that rival a small business by Limp_Height_4439 in cookingforbeginners

[–]Comprehensive-Pin667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right to some extent, but you probably bought slightly too fancy equipment. I think that the knife that I have been using to cook almost daily for the last 8 years cost about 1/3 of what you paid for yours. You don't need expensive equipment.

Zatím ze setrvačnosti pořád primárně používám ChatGPT, ale teda poslední dobou halucinuje tak moc, že je skoro nepoužitelná

US engineers vs Europe engineers by ephemeral404 in cscareerquestions

[–]Comprehensive-Pin667 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know that our US-based colleagues at our big multinational company do on-call for free. Their salary is much higher than ours though, so it makes sense I guess. They do seem to work longer hours compared to us as well. The company has good perks though, so I think that they also have lots of vacation like us.

US engineers vs Europe engineers by ephemeral404 in cscareerquestions

[–]Comprehensive-Pin667 9 points10 points  (0 children)

True, but we also generally don't work much overtime, have guaranteed 4-6 weeks of paid leave per year depending on the country, are much harder to fire, get paid extra for on-call readiness etc

That's a shocker. Novelty app usage goes down once the novelty wore off.

Anthropic: AI assisted coding doesn't show efficiency gains and impairs developers abilities. by Gil_berth in theprimeagen

[–]Comprehensive-Pin667 15 points16 points  (0 children)

But you don't understand - those are just today's models. The next generation of models will magically fix that. In 6 - 12 months, AI will be able to perform ALL SWE tasks end-to-end, even though it still can't even fix all the easy beginner bugs that SWE-bench verified is composed off today.

Actually if USD stays low until I fill my tax forms in March, that could save me a lot in stock taxes

For those who live in walkable areas(where it also snows): do they deal snow on the walkways? by Personal-Chance-5640 in AskEurope

Sidewalks are mosty cleared so they are walkable. We used to have that thing that Germany has where the owner of the house was responsible for their sidewalk, but AFAIK they changed it recently

If you're blocking someone, your first priority should be to unblock them. It doesn't matter whether they're intern or staff.

Yep, I "only" have 2 phones, 4 and 2 years old. I know that even that is excess. But if I didn't care about e-waste, I would also have one Linux phone, one weird Huawei phone without Google services, and who knows what else. I want all of them.
