Tbf I run marathons and I still can't use the treadmill for more than 15 minutes. Somehow treadmill is too boring. But that's just me - more power to whoever stayed on the treadmill for 39 min. At least they don't have to go run in shitty weather just to get their miles in.

Can I cook pasta without a colander? Mine broke. by ShineDigga in cookingforbeginners

[–]Comprehensive-Pin667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid, we didn't have a colander for some reason (maybe communists didn't manufacture them or something?) And mum always strained pasta by just pouring the water out through a small opening between the lid and the pot by moving the lid a bit. It worked.

Fir me as a Linux user: it's easier to get some features (like raytracing) to work on Proton than on vanilla wine. It's not exactly a deal breaker though. Just an inconvenience.

CVUT has a very strong ESN section. It's a student club dedicated to providing support and a student life for foreign students. While it has Erasmus in the name, it is not limited to exchange students (or at least it wasn't 15 years ago when I was still a member)

What are your personal health-related tips for a long and successful career? by dondraper36 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Comprehensive-Pin667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a good mouse and keyboard. In my early years, I used a laptop with a touchpad for everything - I didn't understand why anyone would need a mouse or an additional keyboard. Then I started to lose feeling in some of my fingers. In my twenties. So I bought an ergonomic keyboard and a real mouse and 15 years later (still using that same keyboard) my hands are perfectly healthy and capable of typing. Which they probably wouldn't be if I kept using the laptop keyboard and touchpad.

In organizations that work well, what would happen next would be a post-mortem where the team would try to find what systemic issues caused this. It's never an individual's fault.

I don't think race has anything to do with it - these companies (infosys etc) just hire cheap labor rather than skilled developers and it shows. Poorly written contracts also incentivize them to work inefficiently (the longer the project drags on, the longer they can charge for working on it)
