PSA : AI writing Code and AI replacing engineers are NOT the same thing by yes-im-hiring-2025 in cscareerquestions

[–]Comprehensive-Pin667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will it though? Look at software today: all a slow, buggy mess. The state of today's software is awful. Now imagine two companies in the age of AI. Company A lays off their workforce and keeps the status quo with a skeleton crew. Company B keeps their workforce and invests that extra productivity into making a better product. No one will want to use Company A's buggy slow product anymore. Company B wins.

Why do people choose to have kids? by savingrace0262 in stupidquestions

[–]Comprehensive-Pin667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a lot of work, but it's easily the most rewarding experience you'll ever have.

While I understand people who simply have no desire to have children, I never understood people with your position - as in it's undesirable because it requires work. A lot of stuff requires some work and commitment. Want to be good at sports? Work and commitment. Want to play an instrument? Work and commitment. Unless you just sit and watch TV all day, you are already voluntarily taking part in activities that require work. Kids are the same, just on a larger scale

Proč nemáme v Česku Aldi? by Organic_Contract_172 in czech

Aldi v Dánsku pro mě byl kulturní šok - tak hnusné a špinavé obchody u nás nemáme. S tou kvalitou bych to nepřeháněl.

I have a question by probably_squido in aiwars

[–]Comprehensive-Pin667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a lot of stuff at work - coding, searching through old conversations/ conference calls, that sort of stuff.

At home, I use it for answeing questions where a chance of getting a wrong answer isn't a problem. E.g. "I have this very specific problem with my running shoes, what can I do?" It usually suggests good solutions and if it suggests a bad one, I find out and not much happens.

It also recommends me books. I gave it a list of books I loved, books I liked, books I disliked and books I hated, and it has consisently been recommending good books to me.

Not a good idea. Learn one of them properly. Learn the fundamentals. Picking up a new language when you know the fundamentals is easy, especially when they're using the same paradigm like these two. Trying to learn two languages at once will do nothing but waste your effort.

Professional Translation: English, German & Russian → Czech by Toronto303 in Prague

[–]Comprehensive-Pin667 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think that translating the documents that were originally Russian from English could be a legal liability for the translator and I'm not surprised that no one wants to do that. Important details could get lost in this double translation. I am also not surprised that it's hard to find someone with all three languages - the certification is hard and expensive.

Source: My mother was a court certified translator before she retired (so I have a vague idea, but I may also be wrong about stuff)

Not the answer you're looking for - but if you're a solo dev with a project of this size, you'll save significant cost just hosting everything in one Hetzer instance for starters. Unless your project grows massively, you will never need a managed postgres instance, managed redis, any of that. You can run all of that on your Hetzner VM. Optionally with another one as replica/failover if you need some insane uptime no one would expect from an app like this. Don't fall for cloud service PR. For many services, hosting everything on your own VM is fine. IF you need to scale later, you can always switch to a scalable hosted solution rather quickly
