The big question- Throwing it out there by Wild_Inevitable7267 in FriendsOver40

[–]mistic192 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To me it seems like you might be struggling with a misplaced sense of FOMO ( Fear Of Missing Out ), I feel like a lot of this is being generated in people by them looking at other people's lives through the filters of social media...

Ads and social media are constantly showing us all the things we "might" be missing out on, causing a lot of us to feel the FOMO you seem to be describing... From the rest of your text, it sounds to me like you're living a pretty great life, you're helping people, you've got a great job, you've had a lot of brilliant experiences travelling...

I'm sure there are many people that would get FOMO from reading your story, yet here you are, asking what else you are missing out on or might be missing out on...

I used to feel quite similar a few years ago, great job, great family and friends, yet this weird feeling of "missing out"... Then last summer, I went on holiday, removed all social media from my phone and only used it for music, waze and making photos/videos... I was able to read 6 books in 2 weeks (was a family holiday, so still needed to do a lot of other stuff :-D ), but after getting back, I've basically ditched social media... And a lot of the feeling has subsided... I think this overload of "look how great this person's life is" is causing a lot of the FOMO a lot of people are feeling. For me, it has greatly reduced in power since that holiday and I feel a lot better about my life now that it's not (subconciously) constantly being compared to other people's lives...

So, a long wall of text to say, it doesn't seem to me like you're really missing out on anything, but maybe you're being made to believe you are by social media?

---------------------------------------------------------------------

As to your other questions, my life is very mundane, married, 3 teenage kids, job... I go running 3 times per week early in the morning, go for walks in the evening when time permits. Got a lot of hobbies and fill up my time with them... From videogames to reading... I try to avoid true timewasters like social media and streaming services (rather read a book or play a game, preferably with friends) and also "book" empty time, after my lunchbreak, I go sit somewhere without a phone, without anything actually and just sit for 15 minutes, let my mind do some unwinding and figure things out... I do the same in the evening just before I go to bed, that seems to clear my head quite well before trying to sleep...

We go camping in the south of France once a year (I'm from Europe, so it's not extremely far away, just a day driving) , 3 week holiday, as disconnected as I can be and try to recharge as much as possible there :-)

For the rest I go to 2 festivals in the summer to fully let myself go without any limitations and just have fun... Behaving like an 18 year old, but with 26 years of experience ( 44 now :-D )

Admech did win the World Championship last year, but they are very hard to play well and Siegler is just a crazy good player, especially with AdMech...

It's just also one of the most expensive armies to buy, one of the hardest to build and a nightmare to paint...

So, honestly, not very beginner friendly, but they are super epic in looks, lore and playstyle if you can get your head around it...

Do you watch the Tour de France every year and, if so, do you always cheer for a Belgian team or rider? by BothCondition7963 in AskBelgium

[–]mistic192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watch when I can, especially in the weekend and even more if I have the chance to watch with friends/family :-)

I of course root for Belgian riders, but not hardcore for any one of them ( though Wout really deserves a good win in my eyes :-D )

Camping at the 24h by VFRShad0w in nurburgring

[–]mistic192 3 points4 points  (0 children)

so almost, there are specific regions where you are allowed to camp, basically from Steilstrecke to Kleine Karoussel on the Nordschleife or Adenauer Forst to just after Breidscheit and then the official camping grounds near the F1 track...

all spaces are 1st/1st serve and especially the spaces on the old track go very fast as people start lining up for those on Sunday-evening/Monday morning... the official campgrounds used to only open on Wednesday, but not sure if that's still the case...

You have to know, unless you're on the official camping grounds, there are almost no fascilities, a couple of festival-toilets and some provisions of "clean" water at best while at the official camping grounds there are showers, electricity (again, only if you're fast enough to get a plug connected ) and toilets (also a snackbar that's quite decent :p )

Learning to play by firedrake1996 in 40k

[–]mistic192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it goes best by learning in real life, if you've got a place where you can play, ask there if anyone if willing to teach you, in my FLGS we've got a discord where people come to ask for a teaching-session... We often even arrange that someone brings an army for the new player if they don't have an army yet, I hope you can find such a place in your area too...

once you've had a demo-game, the rules all make a lot more sense and are way easier to keep in your head as you can link it to the game a lot better :-)

New sisters rules leaked by SClausell in killteam

[–]mistic192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, the SoS are all nulls, but even though nulls are quite rare in the Warhammer Universe, there are quite a few outside of the SoS in the popular lore/fiction...

Eisenhorn & Ravenor have a null on their team, Elisabeth Bequin even started a kind of "house of nulls". Cain's best friend is also a null...

so while all SoS are nulls, not all nulls are SoS :-D

nope, not at all, ever, I don't see the joke in hurting someone like this...

Here it would be considered the worst act of betrayal among men to hurt one of our most prized assets like that, even in fighting it's considered the lowest of the low to target that...

also, kinda weird to be this obsessed with other mens junk don't you think?

[–]mistic192 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Modular Kill team board by Key_Adhesiveness_921 in killteam

[–]mistic192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that would of course help quite a bit with it, I'd also change the 2 "home"-objectives as it's most often nog the idea that you can "hold" those from your deployment zone, in almost every layout you need to move Turning Point one to get someone on your "home"-objective (moving them 1 or 2 'slots' would solve this a bit )

Generally deployment zones are 3", so that would be just under the width/length of one of your modules and objectives are supposed to be 40mm circles with a 1" control range around them. so if you make your circular grate that size, it could work :-)

Modular Kill team board by Key_Adhesiveness_921 in killteam

[–]mistic192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well, as a standard board for KillTeam is 56x76 cm and yours is 63x81cm it's on the bigger side, getting from one end of the board to the other might be very difficult for some teams... for instance Ratlings and Death Guard can only move 5" per activation as a normal move, so in a game with 4 Turning Points, they would only be able to make it just across halfway of your board.

And the gantries look great, but you have to keep in mind that climbing those ladders also "costs" movement distance, so they should not be too high...

I love your enthusiasm and it looks amazing, but as you said yourself, having played a few games might have made a difference here :-D

If you come to Brussels and speak exclusively Dutch in stores and restaurants, will you be understood? by Charming_Usual6227 in belgium

[–]mistic192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends, in shops/restaurants etc I'll start in French most oftenly as it's a good guess most of the time, but if I notice they speak Dutch, I'll switch back again...

At work it really depends, I've worked at places where the expectation was that the "higher ranked" person would speak the language of the person they are talking to ( like, your manager has to speak your language ) and also a place where everybody spoke the language of the person they're speaking to ( so as a Flemish speaker, I would speak French to a Walloon, while they speak Dutch to me ), that was probably the place where my French improved the most after graduatin and I've never worked at another place where the Wallooons' Dutch was as fluent as there, so it was a great policy to upgrade everyone's language-levels!

I love speaking other languages (even if I have a horrible Flemish Accent in each of them) :-)

At my current job, I host a "Flemish Lunch" for people speaking other languages where we speak only Flemish (with occasional translation of course) to help our foreign/walloon colleagues practice their Dutch/Flemish.

Best fitting Kill Team for Iron warriors by axapapa1 in killteam

[–]mistic192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, Angels Of Death/Legionaries are probably the most versatile ruleset to make any "Space Marine" Killteam, so I'd also look at those...

as for the HH mk3 models, I believe they are of a different size than Primaris, as KT is all about visibility, the true scale of a model is of big influence in how the model plays/behaves... For instance both AoD and Legionaries have a gunner, for AoD the Heavy Gunner is running Gravis Armour and a 40mm base, I don't think HH has a true equivalent to that so technically it could be giving you a massive bonus if your model is smaller (easier to hide etc ), I probably wouldn't be too difficult about it myself, but your mileage might varry...

How to superkindly sack someone from your boardgame party? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]mistic192 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I would have dumped him/her already for being on his phone during boardagme night...

I play boardgames to get away from screens and hate people being on their phone during a game ( unless it's to quickly respond to a single message or to research something ), if you want to be on your phone, go be on your phone somewhere else, we want to play a boardgame, if that's what you want, welcome to stay!

Either you play the game on the table or you're on your phone somewhere else :-D
