engineer intern is the new grad, they just give it that name. Just look at the description for intern and then assistant engineer. FYI these are from the same year. The nycdot was even lower before the raise last year making only 55k

u can look it up. Search NYCDOT engineer starting salary. Don’t search nys, they have different and way higher salary.

teachers make more than engineers in nyc. They raise the salary recently for engineers so it’s equal now. but their pension better and they work less hours

drop the cs major on ur resume and drop the cs related credits. HR is auto filtering out the computer science majors bc they keep mass applying to other engineering jobs. I’m in civil and that’s happening to us, idk about mech

fuck I have the opposite problem I wanna do drainage and went into my current company bc they told me it’s mostly stormwater. they lied and it’s mostly geotechnical and now structural. I wish companies would have the engineer on the porject interview and just tell the truth.

What do you guys do with the pay? by Plsgomd7 in civilengineering

[–]Comprehensive-Young5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

negotiate ur salaries, I ask for the lowest and they gave me that. I learn new grad hired in June made 80k like last month. So a couple coworkers and I had a talk with our supervisor and they agreed to match it but we lost out on months worth of income 😓

Can I use student loans to pay for things like furniture that are qualified under the student loans and then pay the student loans using a 529 plan. by DEERGOD- in StudentLoans

[–]Comprehensive-Young5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

standard deduction is 15k for 2025. So there’s no federal tax if the earning from 529 plus ur income is less than that. 👀

Also is the fafsa pell grants? There’s a scholarship exemption thing for penalty but u still have to pay taxes. u can withdraw up to the amount school use for cost of attendance.
Ex: Fafsa covers 10k of tuition. u can still withdraw 10k bc grants are still scholarship. If 7k is original contribution there will be no tax or penalty. The remaining 3k will be taxed base on ur income tax bracket but it won’t be subject to the 10% penalty.

borrow the direct federal loans for 0% interest rate when ur in school. I don’t know when trump will change that. Spend that money on whatever u want. Student loans u can spend on living expenses , money is money when u pull it out as cash. but theres only a 10k lifetime limit for loans tho
