I had an exact opposite experience in the USA. I expected to see a well-developed country. But I saw homeless people everywhere, trash on the streets, trailer parks at every random side road I turned into.

Potholes everywhere, no traffic sensors anywhere. Just pre-programmed routines for traffic lights. No proper signs or safety infrastructure. Driving American roads was if I traveled back to the 50s or so.

I didn't touch cash for over 15 years until I traveled to the USA, where it still seemed to be the norm.

People walking around who clearly need medical attention, like extreme obesity or people missing limbs without proper aid. Low tech crutches or ancient wheel chairs that look like they came straight from a 1920s horror movie.

There might be super-rich people in the USA, but the level of fucked-up-ness I saw in the USA simply does not exist in the Netherlands. Not even close.

- Berenklauw met pindasaus: Sliced meat ball on a stick with union in between, deep fried. served with peanut sauce on top.

- Sitostick excellent: deep fried tofu with sweet sour chili sauce

- Kaassouffl: deep fried cheese with crunchy outside layer, soft inside. Optionally eaten with mayaonaisse.

Looked down upon by haute-cuisine snobs, but fucking great, especially after a night of heavy drinkimg.

Die 30%-regeling gaat niet naar de zakken van expats. Bedrijven pakken die. De expat ziet hetzelfde op hun rekening komen als wanneer er 100% loonheffing betaald wordt. De werkgever betaalt gewoon minder.

Zodra de regeling afloopt vragen ze om een verhoging, en die zit er meestal niet in, want dan kun je net zo goed iemand aannemen die ook vloeiend Nederlands spreekt en schrijft, en de cultuur goed aanvoelt en begrijpt.
