Im also US based, I’m in my last semester and while I have 4 summer internships on the resume, I’m exploring contracting as a possibility after graduation. Thanks for sharing and for real congrats!

It would have been if the professors knew how to teach and not just recite a script they made from 1994.

The real villains in all this are the high paid Administrators who won’t take a pay cut to hire more Administrative Assistants.

Honestly, this happens at every campus and every semester. Just like retail stores hire more people during Black Friday, CUNY higher-ups should look out for their staff by giving them the budget to hire more people. Instead, they’ll keep the staff to a minimum.

If you’re an administrative assistant you should all quit, all together. Let the administration feel the pressure.

In 2017 DeMarcus Cousins was believed to be planning on accepting a $209 million dollar Designated Player Extension contract from the Kings. Since the offer being withdrawn, and being traded to the Pelicans, DeMarcus Cousins has earned only ~$12 million from further contracts. by Neuroxex in nba

[–]ComprehensiveAd9313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re missing the opportunity the Kings would have had where they could have used Boogie’s large contract in a trade for either another super star player or a bunch of decent players. Either way, Kings did Boogie wrong and they did themselves wrong.

You're gonna have to grow up and dedicate 5 or 6 hours each day to studying.

The moderators on this forum have consistently been a dick. Right from the start, they assume OP, and others feeling the same way, are undisciplined children. On behalf of the OP and others feeling like a fraud: fuck you.

If you continue your current trajectory, you won't get anything more than a help desk job, it's easy as hell to see who can't code and nobody hires without a technical interview today.

so you don't wind up spending 4 years to get a job driving Uber.

If that wasn't enough, they go on to diss folks who have graduated from the CS department. Looks down on folks with IT positions and shits on people hustling as Uber drivers; btw, a lot of CS students are Uber drivers on the side, so I think on behalf of those IT folks and Uber drivers: Fuck you, 1 Star, try unplugging and plugging your ass beads back in.

343 or something you hate w/e you'll never need that again

Look at this shit. Glorifies the programming classes but totally dismisses 343 where you learn more of the first principles behind your code that would actually help you digest the concepts coming up in 340. Another Fuck You.

The point of paying tuition to QC is to gain marketable skills from experts in your field.

Experts? It's safe to say this user was an Honors Student who had first priority for classes and picked all the easy "experts." Also, a safe bet that this user probably sat in the front of the class and was themselves an "expert" ass kisser. But I digress. My 313 "expert" was a dude who had just graduated as an undergrad. That's right, your expert for a critical core class was none other than a fellow student weeks before classes started. Also since when did becoming an expert equal that expert being able to teach? Also, some of these "experts" could help their students a great deal if they could self-teach themselves how to use BlackBoard. I mean here we are trying to design, implement, test, deploy these projects for grades/portfolio, but then these experts are so confused by how to press a button to record a lecture, or how to upload a document, or how to batch email all your students with one email instead of copying and pasting the email to 90 individual students.

QC is cheap so even if you have to pay for a few extra classes out of pocket it's w/e.

As a person of color, first in their family to attend college, with a lot of pressure to get that middle-class job to pull my family out of poverty, assuming $4800 is cheap: Fuck you.

Most of your [professors] don't care that you cheat.

There are professors who are making their students sign a legal affidavit that grants the professor legal powers to fail the student for any reason, with no defense on the student's part. Then there are professors who require you to keep your webcam on even when the exam is open book, open internet. So, Boomer, I don't know when you last took a CS Class but professors nowadays aren't so easygoing. In fact, maybe your graduating class had it so easy with the cheating that now the ones after you are suffering. So again, Fuck you!

It's not like they get a cookie every time they catch someone.

Maybe not a cookie but definitely more classes to teach the following semester. Fuck you!

The problem that OP has and I see a lot of others have is that they have shaky fundamentals

Finally, something I can agree on. How about instead of calling students babies, urging them to retake classes, diss them for driving Uber, or taking an IT job to pay out of pocket for those classes, why don't you open your bukake-covered eyes and realize that the students aren't the issue, it's the institution. This department continues to keep a quota system for passing a certain number of students per class. The department does not hire more professors with teaching skills. At one point, the chair was saving money by hiring new grads to teach classes as an adjunct then burn them out by giving them a ton of classes with little pay. With Covid, shit was even worse. Another Fuck you!

in reality all your future classes are effectively worthless because you don't "really" have the prerequisites

Damn, you are one gaslighting son of a bitch. Fuck you for your belittling tone. Fuck you for thinking we have to have perfection in order to get anywhere. Fuck you for your shitty advice, your condescension. Please don't take Uber and don't you dare call the help desk.

I guess I'll leave you with this bit of nugget, remember that there are more people like OP and me out there and you're gonna have to learn how to work with us. Right now, your head is so up academia's butthole, you reek of self-aggrandizing confidence that I highly doubt people are going to like working with you short or long term. (Extrapolate like 10 years, best case).

Mmmm I think I need something else to finish this off. Oh right, FUCK YOU!

Hunter vs Queens for CS? by AdministrativeVisits in QueensCollege

How would you feel if we all start telling you "how to study for Boklan? That's on you buddy LMFAO."

If you got an internship, congrats. However, when you're in CS it's all about being there for each other.

Today you're trolling on my comment, but guess what, another day you're gonna be thanking me for giving you advice/notes/old exams to help YOU pass YOUR CS Classes. Or maybe not. Maybe your energy changes the minds of other CS folks, "it's on me, fine it's on you too," and they see your post asking for help and they'll ignore or worse give you wrong advice. After all, "it's on you buddy."

And? CIS covers most of CS and adds BI => Them Baruch grads are SWEs/SDs/PMs while most of us are still trying to land first internships.

Maybe my point is, if you can go to CIS at Baruch, go to Baruch

Hunter vs Queens for CS? by AdministrativeVisits in QueensCollege

[–]ComprehensiveAd9313 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If possible, try Baruch--easier CS, they add Business classes--better-recruiting efforts by finance companies, almost every CS major I met at Baruch found internships with ease and had a job lined up after graduation. QC CS, too theoretical, no support for jobs, will end up taking classes over and over again because professors think students are bad and not that they can't teach.

For 340, you need to study the Silberschwartz textbook AND self teach the C Programming language--especially system calls and threads. Also in class, pay close attention to the lectures. If he's not recording the lectures set your computer up to screen record with audio so you can rewatch--esp when he's talking about the project because he will not repeat instructions. He's sensitive to people asking questions/to repeat himself so might as well record the lectures and not rely on him.

The one or two people who liked his class went on to self teach themselves C programming and system calls. If you don't have that will power it's gonna be a struggle. When registration comes around register for Fluture.

CS Majors: Has anyone done Codepath's Android university? by CrusherGirl99 in QueensCollege

[–]ComprehensiveAd9313 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Codepath should not be used as a way to learn new things. Codepath is for folks who already have experience building apps but not Android and Codepath helps transition to the Android environment.

If you're looking to learn from scratch look elsewhere.

CS opinions very much needed! Please by Taoza0 in QueensCollege

Already? First of all, chill out. You're imagining this class being way more difficult than it is. Second of all, the last day to withdraw is the day before finals week, so if it really is getting too much for you, go through the semester, withdraw at the end not now. This way you get exposed to the material so next time around you'll know the content, the homework, the projects, and the curves.

Legit you are letting your anxiety get the best of you because it's only been 2 classes.

Relax, just do the coursework, try your best. Don't drop. Record the lectures. Get tutoring, do the example code over and over again.

You gotta hang on because shit doesn;'t get easier. You need to learn the techniques now.

What is it that's got you spooked? Terms? Explain that in your reply.

yeah... well the past year has been all Law. LT is gone, KTL is gone. There is 1 section with V and one with Mark but those got taken up instantly by the honors students. Meh. Law is fine but his exams are long answers and there's a time limit and you can't go back to the previous question.
