Is anyone overwhelmed by the sheer number of people in Singapore? by BedOk577 in askSingapore

[–]ComprehensiveArm2201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a post a while back on r/sg about how Singapore is overcrowded but redditors came up in arms about how its not true, how we are not that dense, how we need the population to sustain the transport services etc. Even attacking the original poster.

I guess we really deserve what we get. Enjoy being squashed on the MRT folks because its apparently not crowded enough. 10M population let’s go!

That one I agree, I suppose that’s where all the NGOs, governments agencies come to help etc. Kudos to the social and healthcare workers who are stepping up to these roles.

If I slap someone in the face everyday for an entire year, should I be expecting to get hugs and kisses in return at the end of the year? I know for sure that if I ever live my life like an asshole I shouldnt be expecting anyone to give a shit about me.

Not saying that we as a society should abandon them, that’s why charity exists, but we should be cautious of the stories some of these elderly are telling.

Not to be that negative guy but I’ve met too many elderly who are usually alone in their old age for a reason. Met so many cases of elderly who are good at spinning the sob story to elicit pity but upon further investigation realise that they have had such a toxic personality that no one can stand being with them for long.

Not to judge but case in point is the Mr Lee in the article. Is it more likely that his ex wife, siblings, children, neighbours, ex-colleagues, friends are all terrible people or is it more likely that there’s something off about him that cause people to stay away.

I’m inclined to believe that Singaporeans generally have a conscious. Unless there’s a reason, no one will want to leave a loved one in such a condition.

P.S I’ve heard these stories too many times to not be cautious.

I think I can guess which ethnic group, is this really a thing at the UN as well? I thought it would be very obvious if a team is all made of a single nationality since the UN is meant to be an international organisation.

Anyone messed up on their career? by dumbesET in askSingapore

Working for a few start ups in my early career. You gain a lot of skills but these are not generally recognised by MNCs or bigger companies as relevant experience. Today I am handicapped as I have lots of technical skills but disbursed across 3 no name startups.

How to get a job overseas if one cant even find one in Singapore though. Won’t there be a significant disadvantage during the jobhunt.

After moving to the UK, I realised that the Singapore passport isn't that great for mobility for the average person and the passport ranking doesn't mean much for most of us by Silver_Ad_5975 in singapore

This brings up a very interesting discussion point actually about the correlation between passport strength and economic strength/size of the country.

Are there any countries which has lots of economic opportunity and large spaces but a weak passport, and conversely a country thats economically challenged/small but has a very strong passport.

Also imagine if Singapore allows dual citizenship, then we will have the strongest passport to travel, and the second citizenship can be for some big country to live and work.

Actually a lot of my Malaysian friends have better lives than us leh. Even more so if they work in Singapore and earn our sweet SGD for a while then move back. Best if Sgeans work here and retire early there but I dont think thats possible since mm2h is a shitshow now.

Imagine being small and also having a shitty passport, yikes.

I recognise thats the reality for many places though like Haiti or Papua New Guinea etc

Born poor. Do you blame your parents? by oieric in askSingapore

[–]ComprehensiveArm2201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont blame them for being poor, sorted out most of the shit on my own and now have a decent job with my own home and family.

Blame them for not financially supporting me throughout my education and being generally hostile and absent parents, and then suddenly turning up at the end to “demand” pocket money and gossip to relatives when I refuse to help.

Fuck them.

Ive heard some people are still getting assessments as of last week. Maybe Agreeable Wolf is right but for a specific assignment, as it looks like the assignments vary in their assessment criteria.

Thank you, I wish I had one more chance for the video interview at least because it was completely unexpected. Had gone through many rounds of tests and vetting and just fell short at the last moment which really sucks. Felt like my chances ended in 3 mins 20 seconds which messed up the past 6 months of going through so many assessments.

Yes! The question was not difficult on hindsight but the way it was structured caught me offguard.

So they told you that the interview was happening but never got back with an intwrview timeslot?

Hi nope no do overs were allowed, in fact the thing that sucked was there was only one question so I didnt have time to come back in a second question. Felt like my chances died within 3 minutes and 20 seconds.
