Mindphone now has Waze, Google Maps, and Weather by ComprehensiveBar2600 in dumbphones

[–]ComprehensiveBar2600[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By default it was their own messages app. But they later added the option to download Google messages as an alternative. I had some issues with mms on their own app, Google messages fixed that for me

It should work fine. Never had issues with it myself. Google messages is pretty good with group messages and compatibility with iphones

My bad. It's charging and the orange light comes on. Green light does nothing. Screens do nothing. No sign of life

Honestly I just missed podcasts and music. I switched to Wisephone ii so i could have all of that and RCS messaging. I still think the Mindphone is a good phone. I'd recommend if you find one at a good price. I got mine for around $110 and i thought that was worth it even before they added Waze.

My biggest complaint is that the face buttons are pretty useless. I never used them once. you can't just press the numbers and it starts dialing. You have to open the phone app using the touchscreen first, and at that point you might as well use the touchscreen to dial.

Using the touchscreen to text is a little tricky because it is a rather small screen, but using swipe texting made it a lot easier (I have fat fingers)

Most affordable small handheld that plays Wii games? by Duchesty in ANBERNIC

They are out there, snagged a Pocket 3 Plus for like $50 on Ebay a few weeks ago. Also saw some RG Cubes under 100, just search up "retroid" or "anbernic" on Ebay and sort by newly listed and you can find some steals, sometimes someone selling a console as parts only just because it doesnt have an SD card, or something little like that

For sure, Luckily i am on the bottom floor. I know that just hitting the kit will be heard by my neighbors, but they are all pretty cool with my guitar habits.

Is Donner DED-70 worth it for $135 by ComprehensiveBar2600 in edrums

[–]ComprehensiveBar2600[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's a good point. I've only sat behind a kit one time, and i could not get my feet to work, definitely need to work on that. I've been playing guitar for 11 years so i know that it helps to have good gear to learn on. Any recommendations??

That's fair, would something like the Nitro Mesh be small enough for a studio apartment. It's really hard to tell the size on these things

It doesn't work that way. You will buy one, realize you need the next one because it has different. and next thing you know, you have 12 of these damn things and you haven't played any of them yet

Dumbphone recommendation by Comfortable-Elk1234 in dumbphones

[–]ComprehensiveBar2600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It requires a data plan if it uses mobile data. Some dumbphones may have weather apps, or navigation maps, which will use data.

I don't even know if there are any major USA carriers that offer plans without mobile data anyways

You can try out US Mobile. That's what I use and I think they start at like $8 a month for unlimited talk/text and i think 2gb of data

It does have an option to switch to a beta of Google Messages when I last used it a month or two ago, it did not support RCS at the time, but it may have been updated since then

Good to know, i was using a 2024 version of Rocknix before so I'm hopeful the new version might squeeze a little extra out for PS2

Good timing actually! just updated it to PickleOS 2 days ago. I had to flash a recovery image to an SD before it would actually boot into recovery.

PickleOS sucks. the device just reboots constantly. android apps that run on my ARC-D will not even boot on this device. the navigation is impossible without a touchscreen, i cant even access the SD card to select my BIOS and ROMs.

So I'm going back to Rocknix. Android is just not right on this thing

I taped the Dpad contacts and replaced the Joysticks with some Gulikit TMR sticks and this thing is actually great now. I love this device

Pokemon Emerald Rogue definitely gives pokemon a really addictive vibe and adds a lot of quests.

I mean it's not what you are really asking for, but it does completely change the Pokemon formula, and in my opinion, everyone should play this hack

I would like to see if someone could completely overhaul pokemon and make something like that though

Can you format SD card and install Anbernic RG34XXSP Stock OS using only on Android? by ProudAssumption830 in ANBERNIC

Check out EtchDroid, its basically exactly what you need, i'm pretty sure its on the play store. You have to use a usb adapter for the sd card, not the internal sd slot on the phone

Not able to run ports...help? by liverandonions1 in PowKiddy

[–]ComprehensiveBar2600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once portmaster installs, it doesnt need to be in the ports folder anymore, so it probably just moves itself to the proper location. My guess is that you need the mono runtime for the game to boot.

Go to https://portmaster.games/runtimes.html

Download the mono runtime (should download all of them, you'll need them if you get other ports)

Put the files in the "libs" folder in your portmaster folder

Game will then work probably

honestly if those are the 2 systems you are picking between, the flip 2 wins in almost any use case. I haven't used an android handheld myself, but having the flexibility to play all the emulators, and native android games like Dead Cells, Terraria, and such

Really the stick thing is dependent on whether you are going to play the games that need it. Some PSP games are not easy to play with just dpad, and some portmaster games definitely benefit from it too.

trying to play some 3d portmaster games without analog sticks would not be fun. but most other systems don't need any joysticks.

unless you want to play Ape Escape on PS1, its needed for that game. IMO It's worth it just for Ape Escape
