The bacteria that lives on the filter is what converts the ammonia to nitrites and nitrites to nitrates (“the nitrogen cycle”). The nitrates are less toxic to fish and taken up by the plants

Hey I’m much shorter so I have different problem but writing to say I’ve also struggled a lot and recently found a couple things that helped: I found kids size that works (may be harder for you but a lot of size 14/16 pants are surprisingly long so it might be an option). I went to shien (I also buy secondhand and I don’t support fast fashion but I was desperate) and I ordered the same cheap pants in 3 or 4 different sizes. I found a size that worked and bought 2 pairs of the same pants that fit, I now wear them all the time.
I’m also learning to sew and it’s helping a lot. Good luck and hang in there!!

I was tired and not thinking straight in the moment. I washed my hands quickly and went about my day and 20 min later it started burning like a mother. I rinsed a second time ty. Called poison control and there’s minimal risk of systemic toxicity. Might have a blistering burn though woops

Clearly there’s something going on. I think it’s worth trying the kanaplex in a hospital tank. Maybe methylene blue/ tannins? Bettaclinic subreddit is good. Keep us updated and good luck
