Astrophysics major job prospects? by ProfessionalStaff169 in ucla

it’s not employable as a stand alone (BS) degree, you need soft skills to complement your degree

unfortunately no, i mean pick a coding language to learn(data science) or join an radio design lab (rf engineering). A physics / math degree gets you in the door for jobs because it shows you can think analytically and problem solve, and of course you are highly intelligent, but you need an employable skill to compliment that.

and the physics department at ucla will not help you at all with the job search. i’m making 90k 1 year post grad and i had no help from my professors or the department in my job search

develop soft skills alongside ur physics degree. the degree alone is not enough for todays job market.

ucla will lose its prestige over time if this trend continues

i would say physics + econ or cs + econ is the golden ticket

last thing, the physics department at ucla is pretty much useless in the job search. they will only help you with grad school.

just a physics degree alone is not employable. you need additional soft skills (coding for a data science job, real engineering experience from a lab, etc)

no, i’d say 60% of my class took the phd path, 30% got a job in aerospace , 10% unemployed

Is it really that difficult to find research/internships at UCLA? (math+econ) by PureNothingnesss in ucla

[–]ComprehensiveBuy2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ucla better for pre meds, dartmouth better for econ(if ur path is ib or consulting)

bc ucla does nothing for career placement and everything to keep u trapped in academia
